Welcome to September! Our first family event of the year is this month. Join us on September 12th from 5:00-8:00 for a "Drive-In" themed Family Movie Night. Weather permitting, this event will be outside on the playground. Students are encouraged to decorate their own cardboard box "cars" to use at the drive-in. We will have a limited amount of cardboard boxes and materials to decorate them with available starting at 5:00. The movie starts at 5:30. As with all of our family events, there is no charge for admission. PTO will be selling concessions.
We work hard to plan at least one family event per month. To view the full calendar of our family events for the year, click here or scroll to the bottom of the newsletter.
Our family events are planned and hosted by our PTO and/or Family Resource Center. If you are interested in being a part of our PTO, please contact Alicia Coulter at aliciacoulter679@yahoo.com. If you are interested in helping out at FRC events, contact our Family Resource Coordinator Lindsay Chappell at lindsay.chappell@boone.kyschools.us.

The Break the Mold Award is a monthly award given to one deserving Boone County Schools employee. The winner for the month of September is our very own Family Resource Coordinator, Lindsay Chappell. Ms. Chappell has helped countless students to be ready for school over the years. She coordinates our Christmas Gift program, Thanksgiving food program, weekly food bag program, numerous after school events, and recently organized a "free yard sale" for the Florence Elementary community. This award is certainly well-deserved. Lindsay will be receiving her award at the September Board of Education meeting on September 12th at 7:00. Members of the FES community are welcomed to attend to show their appreciation for Ms. Chappell.
We have more parents providing their own transportation this year than ever before. Obviously, that leads to some challenges in the parking lot at the beginning and the end of the day. Here are a few tips to help with the traffic:
Do not line up prior to 8:00 AM or 3:00 PM
Follow all signs.
Do not get out of your car- we offer full-service parent drop-off and pick up, and one of our friendly staff members will walk your child to/from your car and make sure they get safely into and out of the building.
Have your child ready to exit the car before you get to the front of the line.
It helps if you could seat your single child on the passenger side of the car so we can more easily assist them in exiting.
At FES, we take bullying and threats very seriously and we continuously work to keep our school environment safe. The S.T.O.P TipLine is a free service available to all Kentucky families allowing anonymous reporting of bullying, abuse, depressive thoughts, threats of violence or any other concerning behavior. It is accessible by visiting the Florence Elementary or Boone County Schools websites, by scanning the QR code on the poster at left, or by calling or texting 866-EYE-onKY. Messages relayed through the tip line are sent to our administrative team as well as representatives from the district safety team.
If you are new to FES, please visit our orientation website here. It has lots of information about school resources, expectations and rules, clubs your child may get involved with, annual events, PTO, and more.
The Boone County School District is making the switch to online registration. If you are new to the district, you will have to complete the process completely online. Once you have enrolled your student, you will have to bring documents into the school. These include proof of residency, a birth certificate, a medical physical exam, updated vaccination records, dental and vision exams, and any relevant legal paperwork regarding custody or guardianship (if applicable).
If you are a returning student, you will have to update your child's information online. This requires setting up an account in Infinite Campus if you have not already done so. Our office staff will be happy to help with that. This information update includes all the typical paperwork that your student brings home after the first day of school. It also includes updating our system with emergency contact info. Please complete this process as soon as possible if you haven't already done so.
Our spirit wear sale is currently underway! Check out this link to order yours now! All profits benefit the FES PTO.

All Kentucky schools are required to have a School Based Decision Making (SBDM) Council. Membership of each council includes parents, teachers, and an administrator of the school and school councils promote shared leadership among those who are closest to the students. School councils have the responsibility to set school policy and make decisions outlined in statute, which should provide an environment to enhance student achievement.
Members of the FES SBDM for the 2024-2025 school year are: Ryan Burch (principal), Alicia Bachman (teacher representative), Angel Alford (parent representative).
The September SBDM meeting will be held on Monday, September 12th at 4:15 in the FES library. Click here to view the minutes from previous meetings. Click here to view our SBDM policies.
Congratulations to Ms. Jaime Mahoney on becoming the newest parent representative on our SBDM council. If you would like to contact Ms. Mahoney regarding any concerns that she can bring to council, her email is jaimerosemahoney@gmail.com.
