Like all schools in Boone County, the teachers at Florence Elementary are required to teach Kentucky Academic Standards. The Kentucky Academic Standards (KAS) contain the minimum required standards that all Kentucky students should have the opportunity to learn before graduating from Kentucky high schools. The standards address what is to be learned, but do not address how learning experiences are to be designed or what resources should be used.

While the Kentucky Department of Education has developed standards to guide teachers on what to teach, they offer no guidance on how the standards should be taught. At Florence Elementary, we have adopted several quality curriculum programs to assist our teachers in addressing the state standards:
Reading/Writing: CKLA (Core Knowledge Language Arts) from Amplify
Math: iReady Classroom Math from Curriculum Associates
Science: Mystery Science and Project Lead the Way (PLTW)
Social Studies: TCM Social Studies
SEL: CharacterStrong
In addition to the core curriculum programs that we use to address the stat academic standards, we also use several programs as supplements and as targeted interventions for students in need of remediation. These include:
iReady Pathways (computer program for reading and math)
Magnetic Reading Foundations (for foundational reading skills/phonics)
Heggerty Phonemic Awareness (for recognizing and reproducing the sounds that letters make in spoken language)
Bridges Math Program
