Volunteer opportunities available now:
Search for lessons by teacher name. If your child's class is full, consider helping another classroom. We are excited to have your support!
These lessons are the property of Beaverton School District and should not be reproduced without permission. Lesson plans posted here are for volunteers to use in preparation for lessons at Bonny Slope Elementary. All other use is strictly prohibited.
OUR PROJECT
SUPPLIES:
- Half sheet of white construction paper
- Colored pencils
- Scotch tape – 2 pieces per student
We want the students to put themselves in the shoes of Michelangelo as he was painting the Sistine Chapel. If desks/tables allow it, have students tape half sheet of paper under their desks. Have them collect a few colored pencils from the bin to keep near them.
*If desks or nearby tables will not work, get creative, have them tape it to a wall either up high or down low. We want to make it feel different, so they can imagine how Michelangelo must have felt. They could also partner up and have one person hold the paper upside down with a clipboard or book and then switch.
Students will be drawing whatever they are passionate about! It could be a story, an object, a toy, a food, anything they want!
If students get done early and want to create another, that’s great!
Fun True or False Questions - Can be asked after the video or during the project or not at all. Up to you! A printed sheet of this will be on the art cart.

The following teachers need volunteers! Please consider helping in these rooms:
There are lots of ways to volunteer!
Some of the projects require a bit of effort before and during to be successful. Your help is greatly appreciated cutting, sorting, organizing, stapling, etc so that our students can focus on the art.
Help is often needed before the volunteer training and again midway through the lesson to make sure there are enough supplies to go around.
Upcoming lessons that require assistance will have an entry in ParentSquare under Art Literacy.
Training Required
Some lessons need a little bit of refining. The presenter should attend the art lit training for information on the lesson, how to use the technology, and how the art project will work.
The lesson presenter will take what they have learned and share that information with students as a guest teacher.
Please RSVP by using ParentSquare. This gives us a way to contact volunteers to follow up or provide information about changes to the training.
Nothing but the fun stuff! Lesson helpers will hand out art supplies, support student-artists who have questions or are working with more advanced tools, and help keep things in order.
Helpers do NOT need to attend training but will need to find an experienced Lesson Presenter to work with.
What's Ahead...
The artist line-up for 2025-26 will be available soon.
There will not be a May or June lesson in the 2024-25 school year.
All teaching materials will be returned to the district.
