Homeroom News

During homeroom time, we have begun our first read aloud, Wonder. This story allows its reader to imagine how it feels to be shunned and bullied by peers. At the same time, the reader understands how simple and easy it can be to just "choose kind."

The fourth grade team chose to read this story first as a means of building a community of kind peers. Our theme this year is simply "Choose Kind". You never know how kindness can impact another person's day; It could make all the difference!

MATH

We continue to work on NBT standards. Students have worked hard at mastering adding and subtracting multi-digit numbers, reading, writing and comparing multi-digit whole numbers, and understanding place value. We are currently working on rounding whole numbers.

All students that see me for math have made multiplication flashcards. Practicing these math facts is expected each night for at least 10 minutes. It is written on the board and should be added to student planners each afternoon. I have asked that the flashcards remain in their "homework folder". This will ensure that they have the facts at home to study and they will also have the facts here at school to use during class.

Daily Math Fact Challenge:

  • Most days, we do a daily 2 minute fact practice challenge. All students begin with addition facts and work their way through subtraction, multiplication, division, 11s and 12s, a challenge and finally, a super challenge.
  • Students seem to be enjoying this friendly competition and continue to do well. Students can use the facts tests that we do in class to practice all other operations other than multiplication. My goal is to have every student on the multiplication facts by the end of October. Please help your child practice their basic addition and subtraction facts as well!
