Kindergarten math focuses on building strong number sense and learning the basics of counting, comparing, and solving simple problems. By the end of the year, students should be able to:
Identify number names
Count to 100 by ones and tens
Start counting from any number (not just 1!)
Write numbers from 0 to 20 and match numbers to groups of objects
Compare groups to say which has more, less, or the same
Understand addition as putting things together and subtraction as taking things apart
Work with numbers 11–20 to begin understanding place value (tens and ones)
