Competition eligibility

Bondi Surf Club is synonymous with surf lifesaving and has a long tradition in surf sports competition. Bondi won R&R pennant and George Brown won surf race at the first Australian championships.

All club members are encouraged the get involved in surf sports to improve their lifesaving skills and fitness and be part of a team.

Competition fees

All members who compete for the club are required to pay a competition levy which is used to offset the cost of carnival entries and logistics. 

U15, U17, U19, Opens & Masters – $150 ($120 early bird before 31 August).

Competition age

For SLSA competition, an athlete’s age group is calculated as at midnight on 30th September each year, i.e. age at midnight on 30th September determines the competitor’s age category in that competition season.

Competition eligibility

Competition eligibility requirements are set by SLSA. Members who wish to compete in carnivals, must meet the requirements outlined in SLSA Competition Eligibility Policy 5.04 each season.

To be eligible to compete for BSBLSC in any SLSA competition, Under 15 - Masters members must:

• Be a registered and current financial member of BSBLSC.

• Be the holder of the appropriate SLSA Award (Bronze or SRC).

• Have completed a proficiency test before 31December of each year

• Have carried out the minimum annual patrol hour requirements for Active, Under 15, and Reserve Active members as defined in SLSA Policy 5.04.

• Have met their patrol commitments as required by BSBLSC.

• Not be in default with their club, Branch, State Centre or SLSA in relation to their service, financial or discipline obligations.

• Have met any other competition eligibility qualification requirements for specific events e.g. IRB, Surf Boat (sweep), Patrol Competition, First Aid.

2024/25 season competition requirements

The minimum number of patrol hours for returning NSW competitors, accumulated between 1 January 2024 and 31 December 2024 are:

• SRC and Bronze: 25 hours

• Reserve active: 12 hours

• Long service: no requirement

New members who attain their bronze during the season or are returning from a leave of absence will have a prorated number of hours.

Additional awards

Some events may require additional awards to be eligible to compete, for example IRB racing, champion lifesaver and patrol competition.

Awards by age

For U15 age members the relevant award is the SLSA Surf Rescue Certificate.

For U17 age members the relevant award is the SLSA Bronze Medallion.

For U17 - masters the relevant award is the SLSA Bronze Medallion.
