9th Grade Integrated Science
This course is an integrated science course that looks at the biodiversity of Earth over time. It specifically focuses on the five major extinction events and investigates how space based events, atmospheric phenomena, geological processes, and ecological events can impact biodiversity. The students also study biodiversity from the point of view of the history of the Earth and evolution.
Golden Sierra Peer Advocate Program
The Peer Advocates program works with students and staff to create a safe school environment and culture as well helping students to be successful at Golden Sierra. Peer Advocates are a group of upperclassmen that acts as mentors to underclassmen students. They are there to listen to their mentees, provide support, and help connect them to community resources. They often help facilitate communication between students, staff, and administration. They also act as Teen Health educators working with our 7th and 9th graders.
9th Grade Health/ ICT
This class has two curriculums that that are taught simultaneously.
Health:
Mental, Emotional and Social Health
Nutrition and Physical Activity
Growth, Development and Sexual Health
Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs
Injury, Prevention and Safety
Personal and Community Health
We will begin with the brain and how it works and then learn about body systems and how these topics affect both.
ICT:
Applied Digital Skills is an online, project-based learning curriculum provided by Google. Each lesson asks students to actively apply their learning of digital skills to help them solve real-world problems. Students watch videos that instruct them step-by-step how to build digital projects from scratch. Students who complete a lesson will have a project that demonstrates their academic learning, such as an infographic or an interactive story, or career readiness, such as a resume or a portfolio.
Neptune Navigate is a digital citizenship module that students will also participate in.
Anime & Gaming Club
The Anime & Gaming club strives to provide a safe space for students to meet after school and interact with each other centered around pop culture. Meetings include watching and discussing anime and other pop culture shows, as well as playing board games, computer games, and tabletop RPGs.
We are currently meeting Thursdays after school in room 302, 3:00-4:30pm
