Your child is being asked to be a part of our school’s Kelvin CalHOPE anonymous survey on wellbeing and school limate. It is similar to California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS), sponsored by the California Department of Education. This is a very important survey that will help promote better health and well-being among our youth, improve the school learning environment, and combat problems such as drug abuse and violence

PARENT LETTER for KELVIN Cal Hope Survey
3rd grade through 12th grader throughout our BOM District will have a Kelvin survey link on their Chromebook through their google app links. No extra work for parents!
In order to learn more about student experiences at Black Oak Mine USD, the District is partnering with Kelvin Education and UC Berkeley to conduct district-wide student surveys for students in grades {3rd-12th grade}. Kelvin’s survey platform will generate confidential survey reports that will allow school staff to gain valuable information about the well-being of our students and the climate/culture of our schools. Survey data will help inform school-based and district-wide planning, decision-making, and improvement efforts.
Funding for using this survey platform comes from the California Department of Health Care Services. To assist and evaluate this initiative, anonymous survey responses will be shared with an evaluation team at UC Berkeley. No student names, ID numbers, or any other identifying information will be part of the information shared with our research partners as they help our district, county, and state determine the next steps for programming and improvement.
How will students participate in the survey?
What: The survey will gather information about:
Student wellbeing (e.g., emotional experiences, resources for coping)
School culture and climate (e.g., opportunities for voice/leadership, safety, connection to others)
When: The survey will be administered from Tuesday 4/16th through Friday 4/19th on your child chromebook using the Kelvin Icon on their address bar.
Option to Opt Out:
If you would like to review the survey, your district will provide a copy of the full survey to you upon request. If you do not want your student to participate in the survey, you can opt-out by 4/15/24 on behalf of your student online HERE or by sending a written email notice to Sheri Collins scollins@bomusd.org or Bridget Isham bisham@bomusd.org.
We are excited to improve student experiences in our community.
