Supplemental Special Education Services (SSES) are on-line accounts for eligible parents/caregivers of students with significant and complex disabilities that have been impacted by COVID-19 school closures. Families of students with eligible disabilities can use the on-line accounts to obtain special educational resources and supplies and/or services such as additional speech therapy or other specific services. SSES credits are up to $1,500 per student to be used to supplement what otherwise happens in school to help students continue to make educational progress.
The SSES program has specific eligibility criteria please make sure that you have verified that your student meets the eligibility criteria by reviewing the Program Overview and Eligibility Requirements below at the SSES website with the Texas Education Agency.
TEA: Supplemental Special Education Services
Students who receive special education services, who are currently enrolled in a Texas public school, and are identified as "medically fragile" now qualify for the new SSES+ grant from TEA. Additional information about the SSES+ Medically Fragile program can be found below in the FAQs.
Families of qualifying students will receive online accounts to purchase goods or services that help their student access public school and/or health related services at home or where care is provided.Â
SSES+ accounts begin with a $5,000 grant. Families are able to request additional funds for more expensive items through TEA. This form is only available through the SSES+ award email.
There is currently enough funding for all students who are identified as medically fragile. This funding is separate and apart from the current SSES program.
