Recognizing & Reducing Safety Hazards in Northwest Potato Production

Every day, about 100 agricultural workers suffer a lost-work-time injury. *

We worked with more than 60 Pacific Northwest potato growers to identify the worksite injury hazards of greatest concern. We developed a set of "Hazard Sheets" that identify these common hazards and provide simple solutions. We also developed a Hazard Self-Assessment Tool (HSAT) to help identify those hazards that may be most relevant to your farm. Use of the HSAT and the recommended practices found in the Hazard Sheets have the potential to:

  • Decrease injuries on your farm
  • Eliminate and prevent hazards on your farm
  • Increase communication on your farm
  • Increase worker productivity and morale
  • Reduce workers' compensation costs
