Nani (Siobhan) Ciafone

Nani researches snow-water resource science as a contract research scientist in the Remote Sensing-GIS group of the Army Corp of Engineers’ Cold Regions Research and Engineering Lab. She was introduced to snow science as an undergraduate Geography student at the University of Colorado- Boulder, where she worked as a field assistant and undergraduate research assistant in the Mountain Hydrology research group. Immediately after completing her undergraduate degree, Nani moved to Portland, Oregon to continue studying snow as a master’s student in the Snow Hydrology Lab at Portland State University. At PSU, Nani’s master’s thesis focused on using aerial structure-from-motion to sense snow in burned forests. Nani is passionate about using remote sensing of snow to improve water resource forecasting and advance understanding of the impact of climate change on snow distribution in the Mountain West.
