Overview:
In a move towards standards based grading this year we are going to be assessing on roughly 20 different algebra standards. These are not the only standards we are covering in class. These 20 standards have been chosen by a collection of Integrated I teachers from across the district as being the most valuable ideas needed for moving on to Integrated II. In the first semester we will cover the first ten. These ten standards are already listed in your students grade book in Infinite Campus.
Below is an example of what a student's grade book should look like by the end of the semester:
Assessments:
Most weeks your student will take a short assessment on the standards covered in class. Students self check their work in class directly after most assessments. This way your student immediately knows how they did. Your student checks their work and gives themselves a score based upon a specific rubric designed to reflect not just accuracy, but also their level of understanding. I check each assessment before entering anything into the grade book.
Scoring:
Scores are broken down by standard and are catagorized as proficiency levels. Your student rates their proficiency level for each individual standard. The proficiency levels are broken down below:
Proficiency Level
Definition
Exemplary Understanding : The evidence demonstrates an advanced understanding of the concepts with no misunderstandings.
Proficient Understanding: The evidence demonstrates a clear understanding of the concepts with only minor misunderstandings
Basic Understanding: The evidence demonstrated is progressing towards proficiency, but there are meaningful misunderstandings of the concept.
No Evidence of Understanding: The evidence demonstrated is insufficient to show a basic level of understanding or no evidence has been provided.
Grades:
At the top of the list is your student's "Class Score" this is the grade your student has in the class. The "Class Score" is based upon the following rubric:
A = The student has demonstrated a proficiency level of Exemplary or Proficient on nearly all standards
B = The student has demonstrated a proficiency level of Basic on two or three standards (with all remaining proficiency levels being Exemplary or Proficient)
C = The student has demonstrated a proficiency level of Basic on four or more standards or proficiency levels of No Evidence on one or two standards (with all remaining proficiency levels being Exemplary or Proficient)
D = The student has demonstrated a proficiency level of No Evidence on three or four standards
F = The student has demonstrated a proficiency level of No Evidence on five or more standards
Reassessments:
Your student will assess on each of the standards a minimum of three times. Each attempt will be recorded in the notes for the assessment (ex. 1st attempt = P, 2nd attempt = E).
After the third attempt your student can schedule another reassessment. Your student will have to provide evidence of further practice and/ or study before they can take any additional reassessments. Your student has until December 16th to reassess on any of the first semester standards.
