Review of AVID Objectives:
Binder organization the "AVID way"
Focused note-taking and active review to prepare for tests and quizzes and increase knowledge depth
Bi-weekly tutorials (collaborative study groups) and building camaraderie among the students
Study strategies and collaborative study groups
Deconstructing multistep timed writing prompts and practice timed writes to prepare for college entrance exams
PSAT and Aspire (ACT prep) practice in language, reading, math, and science
Public speaking, critical reading skills, and community service
Argument writing, research, and debate skills
Research Unit: Career exploration

Focused Notes
This is the Cornell Note sheet. Students will turn these in every week. They are designed to help you take focused notes and to make sure you are going back and reviewing / making your notes useful. Data shows that doing this will help a student retain information at a greater rate.
Students only have to take focused notes, they do not need to be "Cornell Notes" every time. Anytime you are actively reviewing your notes that counts :)
These notes would receive a 100%. Please make sure you follow your rubric.
Community Service
8th Grade AVID are required to complete 4 hours of community service a semester.
