How long can I be a foreign exchagne student?
Answer: A foreign exchange student can attend for either 1 or 2 semesters. We are not able to allow students to attend for longer per federal guidelines.
What does it cost to be a foreign exchange student?
Answer: J-1 students pay the agency directly for their services. F-1 students must pay tuition to the school district. See the F-1 Foreign Exchange section of this website for the current cost.
Can I graduate from a Boise School?
Answer: If you meet all of the graduation requirements, you can graduate from the Boise School District. It is not very common, but in some select situations a student has been able to graduate with careful planning. Please see the Boise School District graudation requirements here.
I am a foreign exchange student in a district outside of Boise. Can I attend a Boise School mid year?
Answer: If you are an F-1 Foreign Exchange student, if you meet all of the criteria, submit an application and pay the required tuition, you could be able to attend mid year. If you are a J-1 student, we do not accept transers as each school has an alotted number of spots.
Can I play sports as a foreign exchange student?
Answer: Yes, you can play sports, but you may not qualify to play varsity sports. Please check with the athletic director at the school you will attend.
Laws, customs and expectations are very different in the United States. What happens if I get in trouble while on exchange?
Answer: Each situation is handled on an individual basis. Schools and families will attempt to work through most situations as any high school student would. In a situation where the student is caught with a substance (vape, alcohol, etc) or they received a citation from the police, it could be grounds the termination of the exchange.
