Maori Performing Arts at Level 2 continues to develop the fundamental skills and knowledge gained from Level 1. We explore the minutiae of the many item types that
comprise a performance bracket, research traditional Maori games and explore Maori dance. The course is equally balanced with written and practical components in
both learning and assessment. Prerequisites: To have achieved in at least 50% of the Standards in Level 1 Maori Performing Arts
Students will perform a full bracket at the Tōkihi ki Tua Secondary School's Competition!

Kua tika te mita o te reo, te whakahua i ngā kupu, me te hā/ Pronounce words accurately.
Kua tika te whai i te rangi/ Accurately follow the tune
Kua hāngai te tū, me te kori i te tinana/mahi-ā-ringa, ki ngā tikanga me te pūtake o te Māori performing arts bracket/Perform all actions confidently and competently.

Students will analyse 2 Poi, Haka, Mōteatea &
Waiata-ā-ringa,
Students will describe the deeper meaning of items and how they relate to Te Ao Māori.
Students will describe the different categories of Poi, Haka, Mōteatea &
Waiata-ā-ringa in a power point presentation.
Students will learn how to combine different dance genres with traditional Māori dance to tell a story, entertain and deliver an important message.
Students will describe the history, tikanga, rules and karakia of 5 Māori Games from different categories i.e. Hand & Body games, Rākau & Poi games and String games.
Students will perform 5 Māori Games from a range of categories
