You need to listen to several songs by your artist or linked to your topic. Make notes about each of the elements (see links below). You need to include a summary of the main features of the music overall. (see the example below)
Jimmy Jim is a singer with a deep raspy voice that communicates his long flowing melodies. Adding to his general appeal are his easy going lyrics that send messages of love and romance. Jimmy Jim's tell tale guitar riff's demonstrate his excellent playing skills, with soaring guitar solo's in most songs. An excellent example of his technical ability can be found in this clip - at 2.15 mins. He consistently uses the same guitar effects and makes good use of the loop pedal during live performance - seen in this clip. Harmonically he keeps to safe chords most of the time, keeping the primary chords of I, IV, V and vi as the main choices in his tracks. Often using a minor chord as his key centre, Jimmy Jim's song "Love on the Brain" is an excellent example with the key of this song being Am. He uses the chords I (Am) IV (Dm) V (E) and VI (F#). Rhythmically, Jimmy Jim tends to stick with a reggae beat, and uses a range of different textures throughout his music. For example in this song, you can hear how he layers the entries of the instruments and makes use of his loop machine to thicken the texture as the music goes on.
