MHS Summer School 2023

Summer School 2023 Information

Morgantown High School, in coordination with Monongalia County Schools, will be hosting in-person summer credit recovery this summer. This program should be utilized by students to recover credits needed for high school graduation that were failed during the 2022-2023 school year or for students who need to finish credit recovery that has been started previously.  All credit recovery for the summer period must be completed by August 1, 2023.  Any student who is planning to attend summer school must fill out the form on the link listed below.

Courses offered in Summer School

Any student who has a failing grade in the core classes and/or Health should sign up for summer school.  If your student has failed additional content areas they will need to work with their grade level counselor to recover the credits during the academic year.

When is summer school?

Our credit recovery facilitators and staff will email students and parents their login credentials through the email address provided on the credit recovery application.  This process will start on June 12. If you have not received login credentials yet, the student’s login is their full student ID number (wveis lunch number) and the password is:  morgantown (all lower case). You must use the link for odysseyware that routes through the Morgantown High School Website. The Link can be found Here: ODYSSEYWARE.  Students will also receive this information on the first day of summer school. If students receive login credentials prior to summer school starting, they are highly encouraged to begin working on the content.

If you finish, you will not be required to attend the in-person sessions unless special circumstances warrant your attendance.  In person instruction is July 5-July 27, 2023 from 8am-12pm Monday through Thursday only at Morgantown High School.

Transportation? Food?

The county will be offering limited transportation throughout the July sessions.  This information will be released on the Monongalia County Schools website by the beginning of July or you may contact the transportation department.  If you need transportation, please provide the information needed in the form below to sign up.  Last year, there was a gap in the afternoon when our program ended at 12:00pm and the busses ran in the afternoon (usually from 12:30-1:00). The summer avalanche program may also provides lunches for students and grab and go breakfast.

Expectations

Students are expected to make progress every week to complete their coursework. All coursework must be completed no later than August 1, 2022. Students who are not completing their courses will be dismissed from Summer School and will be scheduled into the course(s) for the 2023-24 school year.  Failure to complete summer school courses may cause the student to not graduate on time. Students are expected to complete all of the work on their own.  Cheating/plagiarizing will result in the student redoing the assignment with the opportunity for full credit.  Students will be provided with multiple attempts on assignments, projects, and assessments. Students are also encouraged to work outside the times when instructors are available.  If a student needs help, they should reach out to their instructor immediately. Any absences must be pre-approved by an administrator, Students will be on time for all sessions, remain on task, and follow all rules set out by our MHS facilitators.

For the summer session there is a $50 fee per semester for each course that will be attempted. Students may sign up to take 2 individual semesters of 2 courses or may attempt to retake the full year of a single course.  All fees must be dropped off at Morgantown High School (via cash, check, or money order) after completing the summer school form below and before in-person learning begins on July 5, 2023. Please make checks out to Monongalia County Schools. Please note that there will be no refunds for students who fail to earn credit attempted during summer school.
