Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting is something that may come up while you have your chromebook at home. Below are some things that you should be able to do at home with little assistance. Please do not do anything beyond these steps without consulting a technology integration specialist. If these fixes do not work, then you'll need to make arrangements to bring it to school so it can be repaired.

If this appears when you open your computer, have no fear, it may look scary but it can be fixed at home.

  1. Plug your computer into charge.

  2. Turn it on, count to 45.

  3. Turn the computer off with the power button.

  4. Wait about 5 seconds, then repeat until your computer comes back to the login screen.

This may take a while to sync back up. You might get lucky and it will come back within the first couple of tries, sometimes it takes 25-40 tries. Just keep trying, it will work!

Removing a Profile

This is also another scary thing but this will fix a lot of problems. Sometimes this will appear with a red triangle below your name at the login screen, or sometimes your computer just isn't loading things the right way & we can try this out!

  1. From the login screen, click on the "v" to the right of your name.

  2. It will have "remove user profile", click on it, then choose that option again.

  3. Your computer will go back to the login screen and you'll just log into the computer again with your username and password like nothing happened. Within a few minutes your computer will load back the way you had it with your settings.

What circumstances would I need to remove my profile?

If a website that you use frequently, like iReady or email isn't loading correctly, or things seem to be lagging really bad you can try to remove your profile to see if this helps the situation.

Restarting

Sometimes a simple restart will fix most problems. Wifi not syncing up, things going really slow, etc. It's a quick thing to try to see if it might fix your problem.

  1. Locate the Refresh key above the #4 key and hit the power button at the same time and let go of the keys.

  2. Your screen will go black & should restart on it's own, but sometimes you'll need to power the computer back on.

  3. Login with your password.

Deleting Cache and Cookies

Sometimes you'll need to delete cache and cookies from your web browser to make your computer run a little faster. We've noticed this is a problem with iReady sometimes and features within iReady will not load.

  1. Hit Ctrl + H

  2. On the left, choose "Clear Browsing Data"

  3. A new tab will pop up with the image on the left, because this is a school owned device, you are unable to clear history but can delete cache and cookies.

  4. Choose the time range, "All Time" and "Clear Data"

  5. See if things improve by refreshing your web page. If things continue, try restarting your computer or removing your profile.

Updating Chrome Operating System (OS)

Click on the Loom video to the left to learn how to update the Chromebook's operating system. This will help if the website says that it's not working properly because the version of Chrome is outdated.

*You do need to have a wifi signal and login to your chromebook to update the operating system.

If you're having trouble logging into a website, please make sure that the login information is entered correctly. If it's a google account, our school google accounts are @boe.mono.k12.wv.us. There are times when login information is entered incorrectly on the login card, if you think this is the case after you've tried logging in a few times, reach out to your child's teacher. *If using MyOn, please make sure you selected the correct Eastwood Elementary School in Monongalia County.
