French I introduces students to the target language and its culture. In this course, students will develop communicative skills in all 3 modes of communication (interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational) as well as cross-cultural understanding. Emphasis is placed on proficient communication in the language. Students will also explore the cultures of France and francophone countries by learning about geography, celebrations, and traditions. At the completion of this course, students will be able to engage in short conversations in French, including greeting people, introducing themselves, and exchanging basic information with others about school, family, friends, food, and hobbies.Prerequisites:

In this course, students will reinforce the fundamental skills acquired in French I and increase their listening, speaking, and writing skills as well as cultural awareness. Reading and writing receive more emphasis while oral communication remains the primary objective. At the completion of French II, students will be able to exchange information with others about home, family, life habits, activities, traveling, and future plans. The cultural survey of the French-speaking world continues.Prerequisites:

French III Honors provides mastery of skills acquired by students in French II. In this course, students will sharpen the listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills acquired in French I and French II. Contemporary vocabulary stresses activities which are important to everyday life (e.g. technology, environment, workplace). Communication remains the main focus. Students will dive a little deeper into the francophone cultures and apply what they learn through written practice and listening, reading, and speaking exercises.Prerequisites:

French IV Honors expands the skills acquired by the students in French III Honors. Specific content includes, but is not limited to, more advanced language structures and idiomatic expressions, with emphasis on conversational skills. There is additional enrichment in vocabulary for practical purposes, including writing. Reading selections are varied and taken from the target language newspapers, magazines, and literary works. This course is conducted in French.Prerequisites:

The AP French Language and Culture course offers preparation for the Advanced Placement Language Examination and will follow the Advanced Placement curriculum required by the College Board. The AP French Language and Culture course emphasizes communication by applying the interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational modes of communication in real-life situations. This includes vocabulary usage, language control, communication strategies, and cultural awareness. The course strives not to emphasize grammatical accuracy at the expense of communication. The AP French Language and Culture course engages students in an exploration of culture of both contemporary and historical contexts. The course develops students’ awareness and appreciation of cultural products, practices, and perspectives. This course is conducted in French.Special Notes:
Students in this course are required to take the Advanced Placement Exam; AP Exam fees will be processed through FACTS account.
