This course will provide an overview of the civil legal system in the United States. Topics of study include the civil trial procedure, an examination of common civil litigations, alternate dispute resolution, evidence and tort law in the legal systems. The course is enhanced through case studies, small group exercises, mock trials and court of observation.Special Notes:

This course delves into the intricate web of legal principles and precedents that safeguard fundamental freedoms with the United States Constitution, Students will explore four key amendments, each serving as a cornerstone for protecting individual liberties: the First Amendment’s Freedom of Religion, the Second Amendment’s Right to Bear Arms, the Fourth Amendment’s Protection against Unreasonable Searches and Seizures, and the Eighth Amendment’s Ban on Cruel and Unusual punishment. Students will engage in critical discussions, analyze case studies and evaluate the constitutional implications of contemporary issues through the lens of judicial interpretations.Special Notes:

The purpose of this course is to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to understand the role of law and the responsibilities of citizens in our society. The curriculum is focused on criminal liability, the nature and impact of crime, law enforcement and procedure, theories of punishment and sentencing, criminal legal processes, the role of technology in modern criminal law, prosecution and defense process. The classwork is supplemented with case studies, small group exercises, mock trials and court observations.Special Notes:

Media Law introduces students to the basic legal and ethical concepts necessary to produce content responsibly. While prior knowledge of the law is not needed, students will develop a basic understanding of major legal approaches to freedom of expression. Although the major focus in this course will be American law, students will also be able to engage in a comparative analysis of legal principles from around the world. Primary areas we will cover include: government structures and rule of law, access to information, defamation, informational privacy, surveillance, copyright and the regulation of emerging technologies.Special Notes:
