The purpose of this course is is a design course intended to introduce students to the industry-level software Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator and make them experts in it as well as to explore graphic design through the production of the yearbook. It will provide students with a strong foundation in digital design principles, techniques, and practical applications. The aim of the class is to equip students with the skills to succeed in the dynamic and growing field of digital design.Special Notes:

The purpose of this course is to learn and practice advanced skills in the writing production of journalism across print, multimedia, and web platforms and to develop and apply advanced knowledge of journalism history, ethics use, and management techniques related to the writing processes required in journalistic media. Students are introduced to the history of journalism and its evolution in our digital world and will study the basic principles of print and online journalism as they examine the role of printed news media in our society. They will learn investigative skills, responsible reporting, and journalistic writing techniques as they read, respond to, and write their own news and feature articles. Students conduct interviews, research and write a variety of stories for the OLLANews website.Students who complete one semester of Journalism I will be considered for leadership positions on the publication staffs. The academic goals and objectives for the course are aligned to the Common Core Standards. Since this course is offered at the honors level, students should expect academic rigor as they apply, analyze, and evaluate complex ideas that are often abstract and multi-faceted. Students can expect to be challenged to think and collaborate critically on the content they are learning. This yearlong workshop course offers students who have successfully completed at least one semester of Journalism I an opportunity to work on the production of the school news website, The Grotto, and the student literary magazine, The Literati. Students will review and perfect the skills of media production. Students will use these skills in the completion of all copy, editing and production deadlines. Based on interest and ability, selected students will receive photography, design and editorial assignments.Special Notes:
All students enrolled in this course will be assigned leadership positions that include editorial responsibilities and managing staff and upon successful completion will be eligible for Quill & Scroll Honor Society.Prerequisites:
Successful completion of Journalism II HonorsCourse Description:
This yearlong course offers seniors an opportunity to manage the production of the school newspaper, The Grotto. As all students will be part of the editorial board, there is an emphasis on leadership skills. Students review and perfect the skills of newspaper production and will use these skills in the completion of all copy, editing and production deadlines. Students will be proficient in one word processing program, one desktop publishing program and one digital imaging software package. Based on interest and ability, students will receive photography and art assignments.Special Notes:
