The purpose of this course is to develop the individual’s maximum level of physical fitness and acquire knowledge of physical fitness concepts and the importance of health and fitness. The content of the course includes importance of physical fitness, health problems related to inadequate levels of fitness, biomechanical and physiological principles of physical fitness, as well as safety practices and stress management.Prerequisites:

This course is designed to provide students with the foundations for maintaining a healthy life-style that includes all facets of health: physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual. It provides basic knowledge regarding smoking, alcohol and drug abuse, sexually transmitted diseases, Hepatitis B, HIV/AIDS, personality and self-esteem; decision making skills; effective communication skills; coping with stress; suicide prevention.Special Notes:
Beginning in the 2026-2027 school year, this course, a required component for graduation, will be offered through two pathways:
Carlo Acutis Virtual Academy (CAVA), the Archdiocese of Miami’s virtual school or
In person during our summer school session
Both pathways fulfill the same graduation requirement and carry the same academic credit.
