In Public Speaking, students will learn the necessary techniques for successful speaking. Through, planning, writing, and delivering speeches; students will assess their own and others’ speaking habits and vocal characteristics as the first step in identifying qualities to retain and refine and modifying or eliminating those that may be undesirable. With this work, students also identify common speech errors and strengthen their comfort level with spoken language. Through these processes, students will build confidence and poise as a speaker.Prerequisites:

In Theatre I, students will be able to learn about all aspects of theatre. Improvisation, creative dramatics, and beginning scene work are used to introduce students to acting and character development. Classes focus on exploring dramatic literature, performance, cultural connections, and technical theatre. The skills acquired in this course result in poise, confidence, and an increased appreciation of this art form to society. Don’t be shy, come learn about yourself and the world around you through theatre! May be followed by Theatre II.Special Notes:
Students interested in Theatre are encouraged to enroll in both Theatre I and Theatre II for a year-long experience.Prerequisites:

In Theatre II, students with experience will have the opportunity to build significantly on existing skills. Classwork focuses on characterization, play writing, and playwrights’ contributions to theatre; while improvisation, creative dramatics, and scene work are used to help students challenge and strengthen their acting skills and explore the technical aspect of scene work. If you love to learn different ways of expressing yourself, want to perfect your skills and increase your performance opportunities, then this course is for you! May be followed by Theatre III.Prerequisites:
87 or higher in Theatre I and Theatre II or teacher recommendationCourse Description:
Theatre III is designed for students who have taken Theatre I and/or II, or who have 2 years experience and wish to continue their study of the art form. Through heavy involvement in the performance and competition season, and a broad array of teacher-assigned and self-directed study and performance; students are afforded an opportunity for mastery of theatre skills and techniques in various areas, and will assemble a portfolio that showcases a significant body of work which represents personal vision and artistic growth. May be followed by Theatre IV.Special Notes:
Theatre III is only offered after school; this course requires rehearsal and performance outside of class time.Prerequisites:

This class is designed for students who plan on pursuing the performing arts at the university level. In keeping with the rigor expected in an accelerated setting; through a broad spectrum of primarily self-directed study and performance, students will assemble a portfolio that showcases a significant body of work representing personal vision and artistic growth over time, while receiving intensive preparation for the demands of university program auditions.Special Notes:
Theatre IV is only offered after school; this course requires rehearsal and performance outside of class time.
