In Studio Art I, students develop aesthetic sensitivity and creative ability by experimenting with the media and techniques used to create two-dimensional artwork. By developing skills in drawing, painting, print making, collage, and/or design; students manipulate the elements of art to improve mark making and the organizational principles of design in their compositions. The course creates the opportunity for students to develop visual literacy and art appreciation, and through the critique process, evaluate and respond to their own work and that of others. May be followed by Studio Art II.Special Notes:

In Studio Art II, students will expand on the knowledge of art elements and principles, and refine technical skills to create compositions with a variety of media in drawing, painting, print making, collage, and/or design. Student artists sketch, manipulate, and refine the structural elements of art to improve mark-making and/or the organizational principles of design in a composition from observation, research, and/or imagination. Through the critique process, students evaluate and respond to their own work and that of their peers. May be followed by Studio Art III.Special Notes:

In Studio Art III, students will demonstrate proficiency in the conceptual development of content to create self-directed or collaborative artwork suitable for inclusion in a portfolio. Through a focused investigation of traditional techniques, historical and cultural models, and individual expressive goals, students develop a personal art style. Through the application, analysis, evaluation, and creation of complex ideas that are often abstract and multi-faceted, students are challenged to think and collaborate critically on the content they are learning, and will be confident about moving onto the AP Portfolio Course.Special Notes:

Intended for the advanced art student who is willing to accept the challenges of a demanding curriculum. The course provides the opportunity for the student to experience a variety of drawing approaches, concepts and techniques that will enable students to compose successfully the different parts of the AP Drawing Portfolio. The personal art portfolio will be comprised of 24 original works and will be developed throughout the year according to the standards of an entry college-level class. Throughout the process of building the portfolio, the student will be challenged with problems that will require creative thinking and informed decision-making in order to pursue her own artistic outcome in a successful and coherent body of work. Teacher instructions and various assignments will enable the students to develop mastery in concept composition, execution of drawing and personal artistic expression.Special Notes:

AP 2-D Art and Design is an introductory college-level two-dimensional design course. Students refine and apply skills and ideas they develop throughout the course to produce two-dimensional art and design. Students create a portfolio of work to demonstrate inquiry through art and design and development of materials, processes, and ideas over the course of a year. Portfolios include works of art and design, process documentation, and written information about the work presented. In May, students submit portfolios for evaluation based on specific criteria, which include skillful synthesis of materials, processes, and ideas and sustained investigation through practice, experimentation, and revision, guided by questions.Special Notes:

In 3D Art, students develop aesthetic sensitivity and creative ability by experimenting with the media and techniques used to create three-dimensional artwork. Through creative investigation and the study of socially and historically significant sculptural works and influential artists, students learn how to produce pieces reflecting craftsmanship and quality in the completed art forms, and use an art criticism process to evaluate and measure artistic growth. Techniques may include, but are not limited to, modeling, casting, and assembly work. Media may include, but are not limited to, paper, clay, plaster, wire and found/recycled materials.Special Notes:
