The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the principles of design essential to the production of effective visual communication, with special emphasis on advertising, magazine and newspaper layout, and marketing and collateral. Using Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop, students will create visual media that demonstrate technical skill and communication effectiveness, along with aesthetic appeal. The hands-on nature of the course, coupled with a theoretical understanding of effective design, will afford students interested in design or mass communication the opportunity to master industry-standard software and gain a basic knowledge of concepts they will apply throughout their collegiate and professional careers. The course will especially benefit those students interested in pursuing a degree in the fields of communication or design.Special Notes:

This elective course focuses on content creation, media production and editing. Students will develop skills in basic video production, including an overview of video camera operation, storyboards, script writing, direction and production, editing and post production skills in graphics and audio. Students will learn to edit on both Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere Pro, the industry standard softwares for video professionals. Students will film, edit and create music videos, public service announcements, movie trailers, commercials and more.
