Students will be immersed in an intensive, hands-on experience of word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software design. To enrich the course content, individualized projects will focus on accounting and personal financial management topics essential in the classroom and beyond. Project topics will include: infographics design, research projects, balance sheets, income statements, calculating markups, markdowns, statistical analysis using graphs, budgets, checkbook registers, amortization tables and the stock market. Creative, collaborative, and cross-curricular culminating projects are also completed to show student knowledge and apply use of various technologies. The applications that receive the most focus throughout the course include Google Apps for Education including: Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, Google Forms and Google Drawings as well as Canva and iMovie. Various other applications are explored that assist students in file management, organization, and efficient & appropriate use of their iPad. In addition, students will be exposed to the power of coding using Sphero Robots.Prerequisites:
Concurrently enrolled in Geometry Advanced or higher Advanced level math course.Course Description:
This Honors course is ever-changing as we are committed to being at the forefront of Educational Technology. Topics include: networking and communications, privacy, ethics and security and logic based problem solving. Lab assignments explore a variety of software tools to support decision making with an emphasis on coding and graphic design. Additionally, students will create movies and use advanced features in spreadsheets. To enrich the course content, individualized projects will focus on personal and business management topics essential in the classroom and beyond; these topics include: infographic design, research projects, advanced statistical analysis using graphs, budgets, amortization tables, and the stock market.
