There are always four umpires on the field in a regular season game except in the World Series and then there are six umpires. In a regular season game there is an umpire that calls balls and strikes behind the plate. There is a first base umpire who calls outs at first and there is also a second base umpire and third that do the same thing as the first base umpire does. Below is a picture that explains the strike zone. The bottom of the strike zone is a little below the knees and the top of the strike zone is at the belly button. The corners are a few inches off the plate.
