Formed in the fall of 2006 and named by its founding members, Project Mayhem began to prepare for its inaugural show. Mayhem is made up of about 40 members of Symphony and Chamber Orchestra as well as students from the Band and Chorus programs. We rehearse each Wednesday throughout the year to perform a few times for our community. This TSO styled rock group, with strings at its core, gives students a high-energy alternative to our traditional orchestra classes.
The first time Mayhem performed in the BPAC, in March of 2007, they played to over 1,000 people from around the Mahoning Valley. From then the audience continued to grow until, in 2016, we played to the first full 1,650 seat sell out of the Boardman Performing Arts Center. In 2019 they even sold out before the night of the show.
In 2020 the pandemic canceled the show just one week before it was scheduled. After returning to school in the fall of 2020 it was uncertain if there would be the possibility of having a show in 2021. As March approached, it was not looking good to have an indoor concert, so the group adapted and moved the show into Spartan Stadium. It took a great deal of effort from every student involved, but the 2021 show was nothing short of amazing. It was a perfect night as Mayhem rocked Spartan Stadium to a crowd of well over 2,000!
It is the hard work, dedication, and talents of the students each year that continue to make Mayhem such an entertaining production for our school and community.
