Værket læses under forløbet "Evil", men rummer en række øvrige temaer, som er fordelt på forskellige grupper i klassen. hhv. human nature, civilization, evil/savagery and the beast/the weak and the strong, loss of innocence, coming of age/growing up, Christianity. Der arbejdes på udvidelse af ordforråd og mundtlig formidling, idet hver gruppe har en dialog med læreren om udvalgte kapitler - på den måde søges fremlæggelse ved oplæsning undgået og den frie mundtlighed opdyrket. Forløbet afsluttes med filmen "Lord of the Flies" fra 1963 af Peter Brook.

Choose ahead which days you will do your homework. Each page is a 3-minute read, so 20 pages will take you 1 hour, roughly.
Read each chapter twice, if you can. The first time, you mark new words and look up those you need to. The second time, get comfortable with a cup of hot something, and let your imagination take you on a fantastic journey.
For some, it can be of help to have the text read aloud. For others, comprehension might be better off reading it to yourself.
