A. Strength

1. Potentiality of the Faculty members:

• Faculty members take part in the research activities and engage in UGC, DST and West Bengal Biodiversity Board projects.

• Published articles in reputed peer reviewed journals and book chapters.

• Performed as reviewer and editorial board member of International and National Journal.

• Participated and presented research paper in Seminar/ Conference/ Workshop and other Training programme to develop practical and philosophical skill in academic field.

• Delivered invited talk/ lecture in national and international seminar/ conference.

• Received recognition/award from reputed organization.

• Executed as Examiner, Convener, Paper setter and Moderator of UG and PG courses of different Universities.

• Member of Under Graduate Board of Studies (UGBS) and other scientific bodies.

2. Faculty and staff members are easily accessible to the students; make a homely atmosphere in the Department.

3. Arrange parent-teachers meeting at regular interval.

4. Special classes are provided for backward students.

B. Weakness

1. Shortage of the Teaching staffs.

2. Nonteaching staff number and Laboratory attendant are not adequate.

3. Lacking of wash room.

4. Lacking of drinking water facility.

5. Poor internet connectivity.

6. Lacking of student's Classroom/Laboratory/reading room.

7. Lacking internet facility in the Class room.

8. Occurring power cuts due to poor electric warings when laded biological instruments operated.

9. No research laboratory.

10. No central instrumentation room.

11. No AC facility in Zoology museum and microscopic room.

12. No live culture room.

C. Opportunity

1. Capacity to open Post Graduate Courses with more Class room, Laboratory, Faculty members and Laboratory attendants are provided. Special papers like Fishery, Molecular Biology & Genetics etc. will be well handled in PG course.

2. Department has enriched library.

3. Has tremendous research potential among faculty members.

4. Having potential to do workshops on histological staining techniques, Choromosomal preparation, Ecological techniques, Wild life studies, Ornithological study etc.

D. Challenges

1. Any dynamic subject like Zoology always faces challenges from different corners.

2. It has to deal with living organisms which is now very problematic as it has to obey different Government rules which is a very tough challenge.

3. Ever-changing subject matter creates challenge as it does require new books and regular updating of teachers with continuous refresher course.

4. To retain the students by explaining and creating opportunities in the subject.

5. Disposal of biological waste concerning health and hygienic issue.

6. Scarcity of teaching days due to prolonged examination schedule and evaluation process.

7. A section of students are irregular in class attendance for family condition and sometimes intellectual immaturity.

8. Health care facilities for students.
