School Nursing Services
Blue Mountain School District
Blue Mountain School District
The Blue Mountain School Nurses believe that the health of a child has a direct effect on his/her ability to fully access his/her educational opportunities. Learning to be healthy is a person's most important lesson.
Parents have the primary responsibility for the health of their children including the establishment of good personal health habits. Parents should see that their children get sufficient rest, attend to personal cleanliness and eat wholesome food to ensure regular attendance at school. Inform your child's teacher and the school nurse of any health condition that might affect your child's schoolwork.
Your school nurses are supported by the National Association of School Nurses and the Pennsylvania Association of School Nurses and Practitioners.
The school’s role in the medical care of your child is summarized below:
First aid is the only treatment administered to students. In the event of an emergency, 911 and the parents will be called.
A student who becomes ill or injured while at school will be seen by the school nurse. The nurse will assess the severity of the illness/injury and the need to be sent home, to the hospital, or back to class. Parents will be contacted using telephone numbers provided to the district. Students will be released only to individuals listed with the district.
Students must visit the nurse to be sent home for illness or injury. Students who contact their parents directly for dismissal without seeing the nurse may not receive a medical dismissal.
