LEA Boot Camp with Teri Engler, Esq. 

Are you aware of the responsibilities and implications of signing in as the LEA at an IEP meeting? This essential training session will provide comprehensive insights into the importance of the LEA role, as well as strategies to avoid common process and content mistakes. This training is invaluable for both new and veteran staff who take on the role of LEA.

About the Presenter: Ms. Engler brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this training. She earned her undergraduate degree from Northwestern University in 1976 and began her career as a high school Spanish teacher. In 1980, she obtained her J.D. from Loyola University of Chicago, shifting her focus to school law. For the past four decades, Ms. Engler has specialized in special education/disability law and other student issues, successfully representing school districts and special education cooperatives throughout Illinois in various administrative and judicial proceedings, including those under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.

Ms. Engler is an esteemed member of numerous professional organizations in the fields of law and education. She has served as an Adjunct Professor at Loyola University’s School of Law and School of Education and has contributed to several committees and advisory boards, including the Illinois Attorney General’s Special Committee on Special Education, the Illinois Council of School Attorneys’ Executive and Special Education Committees, and the Special Education Advisory Board of National-Louis University.

A recognized authority in her field, Ms. Engler regularly lectures on special education and school law topics at local, state, and national conferences, training programs, and webinars. She has been frequently acknowledged by Chicago Magazine as an “Illinois Super Lawyer” in the area of schools and education. In 2018, the second edition of her resource guide, “Assistive Technology In Special Education,” was published by LRP Publications.

  Executive Functioning with the SLD Support Project

Do your students with difficulties in reading, math, or writing also struggle to stay on-task, complete work, find their supplies, and turn in homework, even when it is complete? Learn about the overlap between Executive Functioning skills and learning disabilities in this session that walks participants through supporting the student's executive functioning skills from writing their IEP goal to strategies for implementing Specially Designed Instruction for related skills. Specific strategies for individual students will be highlighted, as well as modifications for teaching these skills in a whole or small group.
