Happy New Year! For the next three weeks, from January 9 through to January 27, you will be collaborating with your newly assigned team in order to produce the next section of "Your History of the United States." In this section your team will explore the rapid territorial expansion and economic growth of the United States from 1800 to 1848. Throughout this period, the United States...

    • ...began to develop a new national culture, while Americans sought to define their nation’s democratic ideals and change their society and institutions to match them.
    • ...accelerated the American economy with innovations in technology, agriculture, and commerce precipitating profound changes to U.S. society and to national and regional identities.
    • ...increased foreign trade and expanded its national borders shaping the nation’s foreign policy and spurring both government and private initiatives.

This change contributed to the cultural division and political gridlock that preceded the American Civil War. Your response should seek to explore these key concepts and explain how each contributed to the sectional division characteristic of antebellum America.

Your Project MUST include the following features:

  • Identify and describe the timeline of U.S. expansion in the west as well the cause and effect of the movement on America.
  • One or more maps illustrating the development of American culture, territorial expansion, and sectional division. The map must include a key explaining all elements of your maps
