As part of the language learning journey, our young learners explored the concept of blending to strengthen their early reading and phonics skills. Blending is the process of joining individual letter sounds together to form words, an essential skill in developing fluent reading. Through interactive activities, such as sound games, flashcards, storytelling, and phonics songs, students practiced combining consonants and vowels to read simple CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words like “cat,” “sun,” and “map.” This hands-on approach allowed learners to connect sounds to letters and build confidence in decoding unfamiliar words. Guided by the IB philosophy of inquiry-based learning, students were encouraged to ask questions, try new combinations, and apply their learning in meaningful ways.
Learners enthusiastically showcased their learning through a vibrant Celebration Gallery Walk, highlighting their understanding of various festivals and traditions from around the world. The gallery was filled with colorful displays, art, artefacts, costumes, and student reflections, representing cultural celebrations such as Diwali, Christmas, Eid, Chinese New Year, and more. As part of the IB transdisciplinary theme “How We Express Ourselves,” this activity provided students with an opportunity to explore how people express beliefs and values through celebrations. It promoted curiosity, creativity, and a deep respect for cultural diversity. Through this collaborative learning experience, students developed international-mindedness and an appreciation for different ways of life.
Learners participated in an engaging hands-on activity to explore the concept of tens and ones using a variety of manipulatives such as blocks, counters, and number cards. Through this interactive experience, they began to understand how numbers are made up of tens and ones, building a strong foundation in place value. The activity was designed as part of the IB inquiry-based approach, allowing children to explore, question, and discover mathematical concepts through play. Learners grouped objects into sets of ten and identified the remaining ones, reinforcing the idea that ten ones make one ten. This process encouraged critical thinking, collaboration, and communication. This playful and student-centered approach made learning math fun, purposeful, and deeply rooted in real-world understanding.
Our little sound explorers at BMCS had a sensational time discovering the sound of ‘S’ through fun, hands-on activities in class! From digging into sand to making ‘S’ with clay, learners engaged their senses and strengthened their phonetic awareness.

They also practiced self-management, fostering a respectful and positive classroom environment.

Bhumika Vadodaria - Head of the School
For me, education has always felt less like a rigid instruction manual and more like a vibrant, unfolding conversation. It's about that spark in someone's eyes when a new concept clicks, the joy of connecting disparate ideas, and the quiet satisfaction of mastering a skill. It's about nurturing the curious human spirit, not just stuffing it with facts. As the wise William Butler Yeats once put it, "Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." And oh, how the fire is changing! Remember those days of sitting in neat rows, absorbing information like sponges? Well, the world has flipped the classroom on its head.
Driven by technology and the sheer speed at which our world transforms, education is becoming a much more dynamic, personalized journey. We're moving beyond the "one size fits all" mentality. Think about it: why should every learner walk the exact same path when their individual strengths and curiosities are so unique?
This shift is incredibly exciting. We're seeing more personalized learning experiences, where AI and digital tools can tailor content to individual paces and preferences. It's about "learning by doing," as Benjamin Franklin advised: "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." This means more project-based learning, more real-world applications, and less reliance on textbooks as the sole source of truth.
The emphasis is now firmly on developing skills like critical thinking, problem-solving, and adaptability – qualities that are essential in a world where job roles are constantly evolving. As Alvin Toffler famously predicted, "The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn." This continuous cycle of growth is at the heart of modern education.
Ultimately, this evolving landscape empowers us to become lifelong learners, constantly exploring and redefining what it means to be educated. It's about creating individuals who are not just knowledgeable, but truly capable of shaping their own futures and contributing to a better world. And that, to me, is a beautiful thing.
At BMCS, we cherish every opportunity to celebrate the incredible individuals who make our school shine. This month, we wished a very happy birthday to Mr. Krutik, our energetic PE teacher who keeps our learners moving with enthusiasm, and Mr. Hritik, our creative Digital marketer who adds magic behind the scenes with every post and pixel. Your dedication, positivity, and unique talents bring life and joy to our community. Here’s to both of you—a year ahead filled with happiness, health, and continued inspiration!
