July Wonders: A Month Where Curiosity Thrives at BMCS
Tiny Fingers at Work: Tearing and Pasting Fun!
As a part of their ongoing development of fine motor skills, the learners enthusiastically participated in a hands-on paper tearing and pasting activity.
During the activity, the children were provided with a variety of brightly colored paper, which they tore into different shapes and sizes using only their fingers. This process helped strengthen the small muscles in their hands and fingers, which are crucial for tasks like writing, buttoning and using tools such as scissors. Many of the children created abstract patterns, while others attempted to form recognizable shapes, such as flowers, animals, or scenery.
Learners practiced counting through a fun and engaging fingerprinting activity that beautifully combined creativity with foundational math skills. Using a variety of brightly colored paints, children made fingerprint marks on paper to represent specific quantities, carefully matching the number of prints to the number of objects displayed. This hands-on approach reinforced important concepts such as one-to-one correspondence and number recognition, helping learners connect abstract numbers to concrete quantities.
Action Word Adventure: Hop, Skip, Learn!
Our young IB learners recently engaged in an exciting hands-on activity that combined language development with tactile exploration. Using soft, colorful clay, students creatively demonstrated various action words such as roll, bend, poke, squeeze, and cut. This interactive session not only enhanced their vocabulary but also deepened their understanding of verbs through real-life experiences. As part of our inquiry-based approach, children were encouraged to express their ideas, collaborate with peers and reflect on the movements they made while manipulating the clay. This sensory-rich experience supported fine motor development while making language learning fun and meaningful.
Learners enthusiastically engaged in a hopscotch game that was creatively integrated with shape recognition, transforming a classic playground activity into an enriching learning experience. Instead of traditional numbers, each hopscotch square featured a different geometric shape, such as circles, triangles, squares and rectangles, which the children identified and named as they hopped from one to the next. This activity effectively combined physical movement with cognitive development, helping children strengthen both their gross motor skills and their understanding of basic shapes.
Math in Action: Developing Thinking Skills in Everyday Life
At BMCS, mathematics is more than numbers. It's a way to explore and understand the world. Our students learn through real-life, hands-on activities that build critical thinking, problem-solving and reasoning skills.
This term, learners measured plants, solved real-life problems and explored patterns in nature. They made connections between math and other subjects like science and art, making learning more meaningful.
We focus on understanding concepts, not just memorizing facts. Students are encouraged to be thinkers, inquirers, and communicators—key IB Learner Profile traits.
Happy Feet, Healthy Hearts: Jump, Run, Smile!
We successfully wrapped up a fun and energetic fitness session filled with engaging activities that promoted physical health, teamwork and personal growth. Learners began with jumping exercises to boost cardiovascular fitness and followed with core workouts that improved balance, posture and coordination. A highlight was a creative relay race where teams passed a ball using body parts like elbows and knees, encouraging physical dexterity, collaboration and innovative thinking. Throughout the session, learners showed focus, determination and teamwork, embodying the IB Learner Profile attributes of being Thinkers and Principled individuals.
Step Up, Dance Out, Shine Bright!
At BMCS, our students are joyfully preparing for the upcoming celebrations of Janmashtami and Independence Day through beautifully choreographed dance routines that blend traditional Indian movements with basic western dance steps. These rehearsals provide a fun and meaningful way for learners to explore rhythm, expression, and body coordination, while also developing a deeper appreciation for the rich cultural heritage of India. Through consistent practice, students are not only enhancing their stage presence and confidence but also building a strong emotional connection to both our cultural traditions and national pride.
This month at BMCS, our young learners immersed themselves in a vibrant series of visual art activities that sparked imagination and creative expression. From colorful handprint artwork to imaginative collage-making and engaging shape-based illustrations, each activity offered a unique opportunity for students to explore different artistic techniques while having fun. The handprint painting allowed them to experiment with textures and colors, while collage creation encouraged creativity through cutting, pasting, and assembling various materials into meaningful compositions. Shape drawing and craft activities further enhanced their understanding of basic geometric forms, all while supporting the development of essential fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and spatial awareness.

Sweet Treats & Happy Beats: Happy World Chocolate Day!
Our young learners recently explored the colour brown through a series of hands-on, creative and sensory activities. They experimented with mixing colours such as red, yellow, and blue to discover how brown is made, enhancing their understanding of colour theory and encouraging curiosity.
Children identified brown objects in their surroundings, connecting classroom learning to the real world. One of the highlights was making chocolate, where they observed the process of mixing and melting, engaging their senses and sparking joyful conversations.
In the art area, students used clay to shape and create brown-themed models, strengthening their fine motor skills and expressing their creativity.
These activities reflect the IB PYP approach by promoting inquiry, encouraging self-expression and supporting meaningful learning experiences.
“सारे जहाँ से अच्छा, हिंदोस्तां हमारा...”
We are proud of our land, where unity thrives in diversity..."
Culture is the soul of a nation, and when young minds come together to share their roots, magic happens. As part of the Unit of Inquiry “How We Express Ourselves” at BMCS and “Culture” at The Indian Public School (TIPS), Tamil Nadu, students from both schools came together for a joyful and meaningful collaboration that celebrated international mindedness through intercultural exchange.
The session provided a vibrant platform where students enthusiastically shared aspects of their culture, traditions, food, festivals and ways of life, learning about the unique richness of Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. From Garba to Bharatanatyam, Dhokla to Pongal and Navratri to Pongal celebrations, the session was a beautiful tapestry of language, expression and identity. It was heartwarming to see young learners from different states engage in thoughtful dialogues, ask curious questions and celebrate differences with respect and joy. The collaboration reflected the true spirit of the IB Learner Profile, developing students who are open-minded, knowledgeable and communicators.
The Rain Dance activity at BMCS was a vibrant celebration of the monsoon season, filled with music, laughter, and pure joy. As the beats played and water splashed, our students danced with infectious energy, embracing the showers with open arms and happy hearts. Dressed in colorful outfits and raincoats, they turned the school grounds into a lively stage of fun and freedom.
This refreshing break from routine not only brought smiles to every face but also encouraged expression, movement, and togetherness. Moments like these reflect the spirit of BMCS where learning is joyful, memories are made beyond the classroom, and every child is given the space to grow, celebrate, and simply be happy.
Where tigers thrive, it’s a sign that nature is healthy. When we protect them, we protect ourselves.
To mark International Tiger Day, our learners came together for a special assembly filled with awareness and action. They performed a thought-provoking skit, highlighting the urgent need to save tigers and protect their natural habitats.
Students enhanced their understanding by learning about the cat family, the adaptations of tigers, and interesting facts that sparked curiosity and wonder. Demonstrating the learner profile attributes of being knowledgeable, caring, and communicators, students expressed their creativity by making tiger masks and concluded the day by taking a pledge to protect wildlife.
Uniting for Excellence: Collaborating with TIPS School, Tamil Nadu
In an engaging collaborative session, students from BMCS joined peers from The Indian Public School (TIPS), Tamil Nadu to support their inquiry into the IB theme Where We Are in Place and Time, with a focus on Disaster Management. To deepen understanding, BMCS students shared personal stories from the 2001 Kutch-Bhuj Earthquake and the 2006 Surat Floods, offering powerful insights into the emotional and social impacts of natural disasters. The session highlighted the importance of resilience, empathy, and community action, fostering meaningful connections and embodying the spirit of IB learning through shared inquiry and reflection.
As a part of our ongoing commitment to experiential learning, our students visited the Biodiversity Park to explore firsthand the richness and complexity of life around us. This interdisciplinary field visit was thoughtfully aligned with current Units of Inquiry: Grade 5 is delving into “Sharing the Planet” with a focus on biodiversity and interdependence, while the younger grades are exploring the characteristics of living and non-living things.
Throughout the visit, learners engaged in careful observation of a wide variety of flora and fauna. They examined different leaf shapes, textures, and shades, asked insightful questions about plant species, and made real-world connections to classroom discussions. The experience fostered their research skills, promoted inquiry-based thinking, and encouraged meaningful dialogue with peers and facilitators.
Tip: Talk to your child about balanced choices, they're not just eaters, they're growing thinkers. Involve them in planning
for the weekly meal to build ownership over what fuels them.
The Learner in My Living Room
In curious hands and wondering eyes, a world unfolds beneath open skies. Not just facts or things to recall, but learning to question, to care, and stand tall. A leaf, a block, a whispered “why?” becomes a path to reach and try. As inquirers, they explore and play, asking bold questions along the way. They show they’re thinkers, wise and bright, solving problems with quiet insight. Communicators, with voices strong, learning to listen and know right from wrong. In laughter shared and hands held tight, they grow as caring hearts, full of light. With every step, they show they’re brave—risk-takers, learning to be kind and brave. You may not see a tidy sheet, but balanced lives and goals they meet. With principled minds and open hearts, they’re shaping futures with thoughtful starts. So trust this journey, wide and wise, and see the world through your child’s eyes. For in the PYP, they do much more—they learn to wonder, feel, and soar. And as you watch them grow each day, in curious thought, in work, in play—you’ll come to see what’s always been true: the learner lives right there… in your living room too.
Ms. Evelyn Jones - PYP Coordinator
The world is changing and so is the way we teach.
At BMCS, we believe that education is not just about books, exams and marks. It’s about helping our children grow into kind, confident and curious individuals who are ready to take on the real world. That’s where the International Baccalaureate and the Primary Years Programme play a big role. We’re proud to be an IB PYP Candidate School that follows a learning path designed for the 21st century. But what does that really mean?
Let’s take a closer look.
In simple words, a future-ready learner is someone who:
Thinks critically and solves problems
Works well in a team
Communicates clearly
Cares about people and the planet
Keeps learning, even outside the classroom
The world is moving fast, technology is growing, jobs are changing and challenges are global and hence our children need more than just facts. They need skills, values and the right mindset to grow and succeed.
The IB philosophy focuses on the whole child not just academic growth but also emotional, social and personal development. It encourages students to become:
Inquirers – who ask questions and love learning
Thinkers – who make good decisions
Communicators – who express themselves clearly
Caring and principled – who respect others and do what’s right
Open-minded – who listen and learn from other people and cultures
Balanced and reflective – who understand their own strengths and areas to grow
This is not just about subjects like Math or English, it’s about becoming a better human being.
If you walk into one of our classrooms, you’ll see children actively learning, not just listening. They might be:
Building models to understand how cities work
Interviewing people about water usage
Creating posters about kindness
Working in groups to solve real-world challenges
This is called inquiry-based learning, where students explore, investigate and come up with their own ideas. It’s not just fun, it builds confidence, curiosity and creativity.
In the PYP, teachers don’t just stand and lecture. They listen, support and guide each student according to their learning style and interests. They encourage students to take ownership of their learning, to set goals, reflect and improve. Learning becomes a two-way process where children feel valued and empowered.
At BMCS, our students learn how to think, not just what to think. We help them:
Ask the right questions
Connect learning to real life
Use technology smartly
Understand different cultures
Care for their community
Whether it’s a project about recycling or a campaign on mental health, our learners take action. They learn to make a difference, even in small ways.
We’re not just teaching children for today. We’re preparing them for tomorrow.
When our students grow up, they may choose to become doctors, designers, engineers or entrepreneurs. But more importantly, they will be good humans empathetic, thoughtful and responsible. That’s what true success looks like.
At BMCS, we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all education. We believe every child is unique and deserves a learning journey that brings out the best in them.
Through the IB PYP framework, we’re shaping young minds to become future-ready not just for careers, but for life.
Because the future doesn’t belong to those who know the most.
It belongs to those who are ready to learn, grow, lead and care!
At BMCS, we take pride in celebrating the amazing individuals who bring heart, talent, and spirit to our school community.
