What Is Students' Network of Cooperative Science?

Students' Network of Cooperative Science was designed to bridge the gap between middle school, high school, and the scientific community.  It is meant for the serious 8th-grade student who would like to pursue science competitively.  As a member of this club, students work hands-on with a year-long project that will be entered into the Long Island Science Congress come spring. Students must be dedicated, hardworking, and willing to commit their time every Friday from  2:45 to 5:00. As their project materials are delivered in the fall, students may have to attend Monday, Tuesday, and/or Thursday to take care of their projects, especially if they choose to work with live organisms.

How do I get selected?

Tryouts begin in April of your 7th-grade year.  At this time prospective students attend on Fridays from 2:45 until about 4:00 or 5:00.  This is when students begin to brainstorm a problem question that they want to solve during their 8th-grade year.  In 8th grade, SNoCS students meet every Friday from 2:45 to 5:00, and in November thorough April SNoCS students meet every day except Wednesdays and sometimes Tuesdays.   Exceptions for admittance will be made for 7th graders that can come up with a problem question by October 1st.  These students will be invited to compete during their 7th grade year.
