The John F. Kennedy High School English Honor Society (EHS) Membership Process 2025-2026
Step 1: Confirm Your Eligibility
If your unweighted average in core English classes from grades 9-11 (excluding electives) is at least 90, you are eligible to apply. Complete the membership application and submit it through the JFK English Honor Society Google Classroom.
Application Deadline: Tuesday, October 30, 2026
Step 2: Participate in the NCTE Awards in Writing Contest
Work with your English teacher to follow the NCTE contest guidelines. Submit your contest entry to the JFK English Honor Society Google Classroom and email your submission to Ms. Atkins at aatkins@bellmore-merrick.k12.ny.us by the deadline. Further details will be provided.
NCTE Contest Deadline: January 5th, 2026
Step 3: Attend the Induction Ceremony
If accepted, mark your calendar for the induction ceremony, tentatively scheduled for:

Step 4: Maintain Your Academic Excellence
As a senior, you are expected to uphold the standards of the English Honor Society by maintaining a GPA reflective of your commitment to excellence in English.
Important Reminder
Failure to meet the above expectations, including maintaining at least a 90% average in your current English class, may jeopardize your candidacy for English Honor Society membership.
