What is an Erdkinder Portfolio?

For our use in Erdkinder at Bluffview Montessori, we will define it as a flexible tool to help structure continuous reflection and collaboration that will focus on selected evidence or proof of learning. We will be gathering the pieces of this portfolio throughout each quarter and arrange them neatly in a 3 ring binder. We encourage you (the student) to capture your work which you find rich and relevant to what you have learned through the each quarter.

Learning portfolios are used to showcase your learning success. Does that mean you can only include your “good grade” work? Heck no! What is a good grade when you are learning something new? Each one of us is coming into the school year, the month, or the day from different learning avenues. While I may have a strong understanding or interest in learning new vocabulary words, I am not a master at it. So, I may not have very shiny work to showcase in my portfolio for that particular element of my education. However, I may want to include those pieces to show how I work hard and am committed to building my vocabulary. Make sense? You are LEARNING; you are building an exhibit of your learning experience, and that is pretty neat.

We look forward to guiding you in building your learning portfolio and celebrating the “ribbon cutting” when you present this project to your parent(s) and/or gaurdian(s) at your student led conferences.
