Well-being & The ARTS

The Arts

The Arts and well-being are inextricably linked; be it by looking at a piece of artwork, watching a play/dance on stage or listening to an amazing piece of music. They all provoke an emotion and contentment that few other activities can match. Here are some things for you to try.

Sing at Home

Sing in the safety of your own home and feel the benefits of releasing your inner diva.

Join broadcaster and chart-topping choirmaster Gareth Malone in his hugely popular rehearsals of the Great British Home Chorus!

The Great British Home Chorus aims to give everyone the opportunity to contribute their voices and instruments to an ambitious digital music project, conceived in the light of many closures to communal rehearsal spaces nationwide. It’s easy and fun to do – on your own or with your family.

The best flash mob our city has ever seen…try to reproduce some of the moves at home.

NOTES TO A FUTURE SELF

Look through the family photo album with your family.

Each member should choose up to five photographs that are important to them.

Now add a caption to the photographs.

Some of the things you might want to consider when writing your caption:

  • Who, or what, is in the photograph?

  • Where was the photograph taken?

  • Why is the photograph special to you?

  • Who took the photograph?

Where several members of the family are taking part, you can generate a conversation about each other’s choice of photographs. This process can be recorded or videoed, etc.

Finally, take a photograph of yourself, or as a group, and add to the pile.

Once you’ve finished, place the photographs, or copies, and any other materials generated in an envelope entitled:

'To be opened in ten years’ time (2030)'
