We have three classroom rules: be kind, work hard, and believe in yourself. If you come to school remembering and showing those three things each day, we will have a great year! Students will have several ways to earn individual and class rewards for positive behavior in the classroom.
In 2nd grade, students will work hard to become responsible for their materials. They are responsible for packing up their materials to take home nightly and should return their folder, agenda, and any homework each morning. Please check their folder and agenda nightly as this is where you will find their work and any homework they have.
We will be using Class Dojo as our classroom communication method this year. I will post often on the "Class Story," which is a news feed for our class. Things like reminders, upcoming events, and photos from our 2nd grade adventures will be found here. I will post our newsletter for the upcoming week that contains our skills we will be working on so you can practice/discuss with your child at home. I will also be able to communicate with you via this app, very much like Remind. This is the fastest way to get a message to me during the school day. To get started, visit this link:

We will not be doing reading logs this year in 2nd grade. Instead, starting in September, your student will bring home a book on their guided reading level once or a twice a week. They will be required to read this to someone at home and may have a short assignment to complete based on the book. The book and the assignment will be in their "book baggie" and they have two nights to complete this reading.
2nd Graders will have math homework on average, two nights each week.
There will be a spelling test each Friday. Students will write their list in their agenda every Monday. There is not specific spelling homework, but it is expected that they will practice at home.
Please feel free to get in touch with me with any questions or concerns! Email or a Dojo message is the best way to get the most prompt response.
