Hi Desiree and Lisa,
I wanted to take a moment to let you both know what a fabulous job you did last night at the Senior Awards Night. Without a doubt, it was the most organized and smoothly run night that I have been a part of. You did an excellent job restructuring the evening by making it more efficient and welcoming to everyone involved.
Thank you for all of your hard work! Your efforts are appreciated.
Karen
Dear BHS Staff,
On behalf of the Black Student Union, we want to extend our deepest thanks to each and everyone of you for showing up and showing love at our Juneteenth Cookout!
From the very start, the energy was amazing, music playing, laughter in the air, and the smell of delicious food bringing everyone together. Your presence and participation made it even more special. Whether you stopped by for a plate, danced to the beat, supported our young entrepreneurs, or simply shared a smile, you were a part of what made the day so memorable.
It was beautiful to see our school community come together not just to celebrate freedom and culture, but to uplift one another and create a space filled with joy, unity, and pride. The support for our student performers and business owners meant the world, and your encouragement is what inspires us to keep going and growing.Thank you again for celebrating with us. Attached are pictures below and Happy Monday !
With appreciation and love,
The Black Student Union
Good Morning,
I hope this email finds everyone well. I want to, from the bottom of my heart, thank you all for creating and providing funds for the Twilight Program at Bloomfield High School. This program has provided support, structure, and most importantly, an opportunity for my son to find success during his time at Bloomfield High School.
My son, Ryan Davila, struggled to find his place at Bloomfield High School despite the numerous classes, electives, clubs, and sports that are provided. Unfortunately, his daily struggle with Mental Illness did not allow him to find success through his freshman year. As we navigated (barely) freshman and the start of sophomore year, I was unsure if I would need to find an out-of-district placement for him or attempt homeschooling. Thankfully, I found that Bloomfield High School had just begun the Twilight Program. As I read the description of what this program provided, I felt as though it was handwritten for my son. He began the Twilight Program the following week.
Gerard Roberto and the ENTIRE Twilight staff have provided a safe and welcoming environment for my son. The struggle of going to school each day slowly subsided. The additional counseling and therapeutic support allowed my son to begin to better understand his place in the world and how to navigate his emotions. Through this, he was able to finally begin to have some academic success.
I commend the Bloomfield Board of Education, Superintendent Goncalves, Assistant Superintendent Fleres, and the Directors of Special Education for recognizing the ongoing need for Mental Health Support for the youth of Bloomfield. I am hopeful that efforts to continue to show support for students who live with and struggle with mental illness are put in the forefront. Additional support at the youngest of ages would afford students the opportunity to better understand their emotions and assist them in finding success both emotionally and academically.
I feel privileged each and every day that my son was able to go through the Bloomfield School District, just as I did many many years ago. They say it takes a village to raise a child, I am so lucky that the community of Bloomfield has been my village.
With sincere gratitude,
Laura Foster
Good Morning,
I just want to take a moment to sincerely thank all of you for your incredible support at last night’s Gala. Your well wishes, words of encouragement, thoughtful ads in the program, and most importantly- your kindness and warmth toward my family meant the world to me. As I shared last night, “Education is a team sport,” and I truly couldn’t have asked for a better team.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you again for making this journey so meaningful.

Good morning,
I just wanted to take a moment to thank you all and your teams for educating our third son, Aidan Heaney. He is a young man now who came into Bloomfield High School lost and not wanting to do any extracurricular activities after 2 years of pandemic lock downs. We all had to retreat into our shells for a while to survive.
Aidan walks to the beat of his own drummer and has determination to intensely study and research any topic that captures his interests. He has a ton of curiosity and empathy and kindness but refused to pick up an instrument or join a team. Thankfully the folks at the Key Club found him and nurtured his curious nature and helped him focus on things bigger than himself. With their guidance he began to excel not just academically but socially as well. In short, you all helped him become a well rounded student ready for life ahead. He was happy to serve as State Webmaster this year and feels a real sense of accomplishment. He has made several life long friendships that will keep in touch with not just Essex County Students but also other peer leaders around the state.
In September he will begin a 5 year masters program in Information Technology at NJIT. He is confident and determined as ever to make that happen now.
We have had many adventures and calamities along the way, but feel comfortable knowing Aidan will survive out there in the world no matter what tomorrow brings or what he chooses to do, thanks in part to the lessons he learned at Bloomfield High School. He has come out of his shell and now walks with Bengal Pride.
For this and many other reasons we thank you, his educators, for the fine work you do each year with these kids. We look forward to seeing you at graduation.
Peace and Love
Thomas and Pauline Heaney
Wow, wow, wow! Gave me chills! Congratulations! So glad to be a part of the success stories!
Have a fabulous Friday!

Dear Administrative Team,
I just wanted to take a moment to share my deep gratitude for the truly wonderful year my son, Lucas Gales, has had at school.
Lucas has a history of not enjoying school, especially after a challenging experience last year in 6th grade with a teacher who didn’t create a very encouraging environment. This year, though, there has been a complete turnaround, and I can’t thank you and your phenomenal group of educators enough for that.
While Lucas isn’t a child who causes problems and generally gets good grades, that doesn’t mean school has been easy for him—or for us. Getting him to school each day and helping him enjoy the experience has, in the past, been a constant struggle. He presents as an easygoing student, but he truly needed the kind of supportive, respectful, and growth-oriented environment that his teachers cultivated this year, not just to make it through, but to strive and improve.
I’m so grateful to Mrs. Luongo, Mrs. Hamed, Mrs. Ferraro, Mrs. Shipman, and Mr. Joshi for taking the time to enhance his academic strengths and for creating a classroom environment where he felt encouraged to participate and grow.
I also want to thank all of Lucas’s encore teachers—Ms. Coleman, Ms. Blumenfeld, and Ms. Francese. Even though they only worked with him for one trimester, they still managed to build a connection and encourage him in meaningful ways. Ms. Brennan and Ms. Lopez, whom he had all year, also played an important role in his positive experience. Their ability to make an impact in such a varied and limited time speaks volumes. In particular, the robotics and art classes were highlights for Lucas—he loved them so much that they completely changed his perspective on both fields.
So often, schools hear more about what isn’t working. I just wanted to be sure to say thank you. What your team is doing is working—and it matters.
Warmly,
Leana Barbosa
Happy Friday,
This is such a great video, and what an exciting time for these students!

Good morning my friends,
I wanted to reach out this morning and take a moment to say thank you. Gail and I had the opportunity to celebrate our daughter Casey’s graduation from Lehigh University this weekend which led me to have several moments of introspection (and tears). From Brookdale School to BMS to BHS both of our children were challenged to find something in themselves to make each of them better students and more importantly better people. We always felt that the entire district was a partner with us as we raised our children. I’m not blind to the challenges you all face on a daily basis but I wanted you to be aware when you get it right, my goodness you get it right. I thank you for creating an environment where those that want the opportunity to challenge themselves can! Proud Parent of graduates from Loyola University (Baltimore) and Lehigh University.
It’s a great day to be a Bloomfield Bengal!

Mr. Roberto
I wanted to write you and say thanks for the twilight program. It wasn’t always easy but I know Trey would not be thriving now without that program.
He struggled a lot because of the pandemic. He needed that time out of the normal school hours and rigor to get himself to a better place emotionally and socially and Twilight gave him that space.
I am grateful he was ready to transfer to the normal school program after his 2 years in Twilight (9th and 10th).
He’s now in 11th and doing great. He’s almost got all 90 or above. He scored 700 on the English potion of the psat this past Nov.
He’s thinking of maybe trying to be a doctor. He would not be where he is without the Twilight program.
Thank you so much,
Anna-Marie O’Rourke
Good morning Team,
I hope this email finds you well. I'm writing to acknowledge the wonderful job done by Mrs. Vayda-Manzo, Mrs. Baker, and Mr. Sarmiento at the middle school orientation last night.
It was well organized, the BMS staff was welcoming, and the student volunteers were very helpful. The presentation in the auditorium was informative and thorough.
My son was excited to learn about all the clubs in the cafeteria, and I loved seeing the band students performing in the gym.
Great job to the BMS team!
Best regards,

Dear Sal,
Thank you so much for sharing Ms. Rosales’ letter. It is incredibly heartfelt and uplifting, and the gratitude she expressed shines through so clearly. Her detailed account of the life-changing impact the team has had on her family and her son Johnathan is nothing short of inspiring.
Hearing directly from a parent about how the Twilight Program helped Johnathan grow from a quiet introvert into a confident young man now pursuing college dreams is a testament to the meaningful work happening within the program. It’s affirming to see such positive outcomes and reminds us of why we do what we do.
It’s always a bonus to receive firsthand experiences like this, especially from parents whose children have benefited from special services. The letter not only celebrates Johnathan’s achievements but also highlights the critical role the team played in his success. Ms. Rosales’ genuine appreciation and her encouragement for the program’s future growth add a powerful note, underscoring the real, tangible impact these services have on families.
Please share this with the team. In light of the adverse feedback we often encounter, it is truly amazing and validating to hear such positive stories. It serves as a reminder of the hard work and effort our staff put into supporting students every single day.
Parents don’t always take the time to write letters like this, so when they do, it’s important to ensure our team knows their dedication and efforts have not gone unnoticed. Thank you again for passing this along—it is moments like these that fuel our collective passion and commitment to our students.

Hello Principal Lo!
We wanted to thank you for bringing the Robotics Club to Oak View. Richard had an amazing time this year and has learned so much. To be honest, we had no idea what to expect when we went to the high school this past Sunday, but we were blown away by the excitement! That was as good as any sporting event we've been to with the kids!! And those high school kids were so sweet and wonderful with our children. I was actually hoarse afterward from all the cheering.
Thank you so much. We hope that this is a program that can grow from here.

Good afternoon,
I’d just like to thank you so much for taking the time to consider how moving a 6 year old child in the middle of the school year, well it’s basically the end of the school year since there’s about 2 and a half months left, would affect her academically. Thank you for thinking about what’s in the child’s best interest because after losing her sister why not make her leave friends, teacher and everyone else who has been so supportive during this, to go to a different school where she knows no one. And yes, us moving due to a death should be considered as “personal reasons”. Thank you so much for the compassion you have shown my family in this difficult time. And I hope you stay blessed.
Hi Mr. Jennings,
We wanted to share with you that Dr. Taji was so thrilled with our students and our school yesterday. She was saying that our students all seemed to be grateful and genuinely happy that she was there to talk to them. She said that she has been in many high schools and she has never felt so welcomed by both the students and the staff. She was so impressed by the questions that our students were asking her and how they all focused on just her the entire talk. There was not a cell phone to be seen in any of their hands. She was raving about how beautiful our school was too both from the outside and once she came in and walked around the halls.
It was very nice to hear and I told her that I would let you know!
Good Morning Team,
I hope this message finds you all well. I wanted to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you for your unwavering patience, dedication, and support over the past two years. Your commitment to providing me and my family with the opportunities necessary for Johnathan's success has been invaluable. Without your help and encouragement, I truly don't know where we would be today.
I am thrilled to share that Johnathan has successfully passed his GED exams and has received his diploma. He is now considering attending college to pursue a degree in accounting, a dream that would not have been possible without all of you guiding him to be his best.
Johnathan has transformed from a quiet introvert into a confident, mature young man, thanks in large part to the incredible guidance he received through the Twilight Program. I sincerely hope that as the years go on, this program continues to grow and expand, helping more families and children just as it has helped Johnathan.
Thank you again for everything. Your impact has made a lasting difference, and I will always be grateful for the role you've played in Johnathan's journey.
Sincerely,
Joana Rosales
Hi Marianne,
We had a lovely time with your students on Wednesday! Our staff were blown away by how polite and enthusiastic all the students were, and how engaged the teachers were too! Lois, who taught Early Settler Life, said "They were all so inquisitive and thoughtful and polite. Their questions and enthusiasm showed that they were really enjoying their time at SOC. What a pleasure to work with such terrific human beings." I couldn't have put it better myself--I also saw so much love, encouragement, and support amongst classmates during Confidence Course, which really allowed each student to feel safe enough to push themselves a little outside of their comfort zones (which is what we aim for in Confidence Course!).
Despite it being a long day with lots of activity, they carried their enthusiasm with them all the way through to our summation. Many noted the apple crisp in Early Settler Life as their favorite part of the day, and several seemed to have gained a new appreciation for being outdoors. Kathy even mentioned that she wants to bring her family back to Stokes this summer to show them all the cool things they could do here!
Thank you once again for all the work you put into making this trip happen. Hopefully we can welcome Franklin School back to NJSOC again sometime soon!
Best,
Allyson
I am writing to express my sincere appreciation for the outstanding work that Ron Vope and Jose Deo from your Building and Grounds team have provided to our preschool over the past few weeks. Their assistance with moving furniture, prepping and preparing our rooms prior to the painter coming, cleaning out closets, removing soil and debris from the outside property, laying grass seed, and delivering important files to the district building has been invaluable.
Ron and Jose's professionalism, attention to detail, and willingness to go above and beyond have greatly contributed to the smooth functioning and improvement of our school environment. Their efforts have helped us create a welcoming and safe space for both students and staff, and we are deeply grateful for their dedication.
Please extend my thanks and appreciation to both Ron and Jose. Their hard work does not go unnoticed, and they are a vital part of our success.
Sincerely,
Helen
Dear Ms. Halpin,
Congratulations to the Bloomfield Key Club and all those involved
in organizing and presenting the Thanksgiving dinner for Bloomfield’s senior citizens.
It was evident that a lot of hard work, time, and energy went into the preparation and the organization for Thursday's dinner.
Thank you to the advisors and teachers present.
The Madrigals and Orchestra were quite impressive!
The dinner and dessert was delicious!
The cafeteria was clean thanks to Mr.Legelen and his custodial staff.
Thursday’s dinner was a great afternoon for everyone in attendance, whether students, seniors, Bloomfield staff, or administrative members.
Since I don’t know everyone involved, please thank them on my behalf!
Thank you so much!

I just wanted to take a minute and send the both of you an email to thank you for creating a district in which I have loved working at for every minute. When I was presented with the opportunity to work at a school closer to home, it was probably one of the most difficult decisions I have ever made to leave a district that I absolutely love, and truly believe is very special. Bloomfield has not only been my home since student teaching, but I have been a proud teacher of Watsessing for the past 15 years. I have appreciated all the support that you have given me as an educator, and all the support that you have given my students over the years. You might not realize the impact you made with coming to Watsessing’s 3rd grade wax museum, or dinosaur day, or just stopping in to say hi, but the class was always excited to see you come and even more excited to know that you cared about what was going on. I do not think that another district is going to top how special Bloomfield is. For my family at this time, I know it was the right decision for them, but Bloomfield will always be my home. Friday is going to be hard knowing it’s my last day. But I couldn’t leave without saying thank you for creating a district where both teachers and students can grow and excel and love so much. I really do hope our paths cross again in the future. I will look at my memories of Bloomfield and Watsessing, fondly forever. Wishing you both continued success always.
Once a Bengal always a bengal,
Rachel
Good afternoon all,
As Rosh Hashana approaches, and the Jewish people reflect on this past year and the New Year to come, I would like to extend my sincerest gratitude to you all for helping create a beautiful and conducive space for our performances and rehearsals.
The new lighting that we received last year as well as the upgraded music stands, stand rack, new shelving, new paint and stage flooring truly brightens up the space and creates an environment in which the students feel empowered to practice and perform in.
Every morning the students come in, their eyes widen with how bright, open, and inviting the stage looks - and feels. There has truly been a culture shift from just being on the stage to being in a rehearsal space. Tomorrow morning, Michelle Lampert will be observing a 6th grade orchestra rehearsal but I do invite all of you to attend a rehearsal, a concert dress rehearsal, and the winter or spring concert to truly enjoy the full effect of the fruits of your labor.
Teaching truly takes a village, and I´m so thankful for the village I have here at Fairview School; and Bloomfield.
So huge thank you again to the administration, HSA president, custodial staff, and everyone who puts in a helping hand to support the teachers and students in ALL they do - not just academics in the classroom but the extracurricular activities that make up the whole child(ren).
Please pass this message onto our maintenance / electrical staff; as I don´t know their emails but they certainly deserve a big thank you for all the lights and maintenance they put into making the stage what it is!
Have a wonderful rest of your week, and Shana Tova (Happy New Year) to those who celebrate!

Dear Mr. Goncalves, I hope this email finds you well.
My name is Kamal Abuameer, and I am from William Paterson University. I have attended Bloomfield High School for the past two semesters to fulfill my Clinical placement of field experience as a student teacher candidate. I would like to take a moment to express my gratitude and appreciation of allowing me to attend your school during my journey in this program. I am greatly appreciative of the support that I received from my clinical educator Ms. Devino, along with Mr. Caplan. Both have provided me with the skills and knowledge necessary to ensure that I finish my clinical placement successfully. They have spent all the time they can give inside and outside the classroom to answer any questions and provide feedback on numerous occasions. There are no words to describe their effort and dedication to help me along my journey. I also would like to acknowledge the support of everyone here at Bloomfield HS, who treated me with courtesy and made me feel welcome. It has been a wonderful experience here at Bloomfield HS.
Ms. Cerrone,
It is unbelievable that the school year just finished. Steven said that he feels like school just started not too long ago. I just wanted to thank you for creating such a nurturing space for Steven and the rest of the kids to grow intellectually and emotionally. You have brought out the best in Steven this year! Thank you for encouraging Steven and the rest of the students to be their best selves!
You have consistently shown your dedication to teaching the kids and it doesn’t go unnoticed. From finding creative ways to best teach them, to having them learn accountability for their work/actions, to showing your support and having your own family members come out to support the kids by having them read books to them throughout the year. You have created a safe environment. We loved that you have also taking the time to create a “class yearbook” for the students to cherish forever and voluntarily got dunked in the tank during Field Day 16 times, yikes!… the list goes on!
We appreciate your patience, frequent communication to parents, and your love of teaching the kids. Your dedication to the kids is admirable and your positive impact will forever be remembered by Steven (and of course the rest of the kids)!
Hope you enjoy your well-deserved summer!
Wishing you all the best,
Jacqueline Gil
I wanted to take a moment to recognize the work done by Dave Keller on several rooms at the ECC at Forest Glen, including my office, the main office room, and the Child Study conference room where parents meet for their first initial meeting. The attention to detail and the quality of the work are impressive, and the finished result has significantly enhanced the atmosphere in these spaces.
In addition to his great work in the offices, I understand Dave is currently working on painting the boiler room, which is no easy task.
Please extend my gratitude to Dave for his hard work. His contributions have had a positive impact on our working environment, and I appreciate his ongoing efforts.
Thank you for your time.
Best regards,
Helen
Was really fun. Thanks to you and the staff for planning and hosting. They did a really great job making it fun, and fast paced, and somehow also calm. Declan had a blast, and was a little chatterbox about everything that happened at school that day all the way home (which isn't often the case with him).
Appreciate all that you and the staff do for the families of Berkeley. Just a couple more days to get through before the break!
No need to respond to this as I know you are slammed with stuff. I feel like we as humans don't celebrate the good as much as we should. So I wanted to take a moment to just say thank you!
Best,

Hello, Mr. Fleres!
It seems like I just wrote you a similar email not too long ago, but I feel you can never be too redundant when it comes to praise and gratitude.
Yesterday afternoon, my high school student left their backpack on the bus and (somehow) didn't realize this until after getting home. I was still here at the library but was unable to reach anyone at BHS. I then called the Board Office, and Roseann could not have been nicer or more willing to help. She put me in touch with Kevin, who I believe was not even working yesterday, and he was just as friendly and happy to assist with the backpack retrieval. He tracked down Andre, the bus driver, who met me at BMS with an empathetic smile as he handed me the backpack.
Please, please see that each of these pleasant interactions is noted in the files of this amazing team. Once again, the staff members of the Bloomfield Public Schools have performed above and beyond their positions "behind the scenes" to assist with an unexpected personal issue. I genuinely appreciate how Roseann, Kevin, and Andre displayed the utmost respect, understanding, and above all, kindness in this stressful situation.
Sincerely,

Good morning Superintendent Goncalves,
I hope you had a nice holiday.
I am writing to express my appreciation for members of your staff at the middle school. My daughter, Leela Altabef, returned to the district this year after a three-year hiatus during Covid. Leela had a challenging year last year, and combined with her being in middle school, we were unsure of how she would adapt. We have been pleasantly surprised by the relative ease of this transition. Leela has been treated kindly and attentively by the teachers of team 7W, and all of them get her and see her strengths. Specifically, Ms. Rodriguez and Ms. Scoffienza, who help Leela thrive in math for the first time, and Mr. LIberti and Ms. Kirch, whose lessons keep her engaged and curious. All the teachers have given excellent feedback about how to support her and more importantly, how much she adds to the classroom.
In addition, the leadership has been thoughtful and responsive. Ms. Falco has been available to address both my questions and Leela's struggles with kindness and action. She is an asset as a guidance counselor. When I left a voicemail for Ms. Vayda early in the year about some anti-Semitism that Leela experienced, she called me back that night to let me know that the behavior would be addressed.
I was an educator for 20 years in middle schools, both public and private, and for years, I was unsure of what to expect at BMS. As I'm sure you know, the feedback from parents and the reviews online about the school are quite mixed. Now as a parent of a middle schooler, I am so pleased to be able to say with confidence that my concerns are taken seriously and the school personnel are responsive to our needs. As a member of the community, I am proud of Bloomfield's diversity and many efforts to do right by their students.
Many thanks,
Helaina Altabef
Dear Principal Vayda and team,
I really hope you are all having a wonderful summer and dreaming of the AC soon to be chilling those warm halls! Ms. Vayda, it was about this time one year ago that I reached out to you asking whether Bloomfield Middle School might be a good fit for our daughter Clemmie - we were at our wits' end as to where to send her after a series of unhappy experiences in a bunch of cripplingly expensive private schools.
I will never forget (and I tell everyone who will listen) how the busy Principal of a school about to welcome 1,000 kids back after the summer break, spent 2 x 1 hr with me on the phone talking through our options, arranged calls for us to have with the Special Ed team and other teachers and then gave us a personal tour of her school 3 days before the semester started! You and all of your team, including Kelly Reer who we are still in touch with today for BHS, were so generous with your time, so kind, understanding, and patient when frankly you could have just said "This is the school, take it or leave it".
Clemmie had a great (for Clemmie!) experience in 8th grade. Ms Ventola's nurturing environment was a great place to start and with Tara at her back, she moved out into the wider school. Her academics are improving, her social skills are reappearing and she is actually looking forward to high school (as much as Clemmie will ever look forward to education!). She went to the 8th-grade dance, smiled through promotion, and loved the Move Up day. She is signing up for theater and tennis and key club in HS - I am exhilarated!
I just wanted to reach out and say THANK YOU. Thank you for making the time for this one family when you have so many families you have on your plate. Thank you to Ms Ventola, to Ms Dublanica, Ms Balkin, Ms Lopez, Ms Abernathy, Ms DeLora, and Ms Lospaluto. Thank you for always responding to emails, making time for calls and meetings, and doing your best by Clemmie.
You all made such a difference in this child's school career and you made a HUGE difference in my ability to parent!
I wish you a wonderful rest of summer and much luck next year!
Leigh Gilmore (& Bruce Gillman)
Good afternoon,
I hope that everybody is doing well and enjoying the summer. I want to take a moment to thank Alex Juzwiak for her efforts on behalf of the Diversity Committee in applying for the MLK Dream Grant. More information to follow.
Thank you and have a great night!

Gentlemen,
On behalf of Gerry Gallagher, Don Smolyn and Myself thank you for allowing us to use Foley Field to run our Wing T Camps this year. We believe the camps benefited the Bloomfield student-athletes who participated. Also thanks to Mike Carter and James Mc Daniels who did a great job assisting us as needed though out the sessions.
We are looking forward to working with you again next year.
Sincerely,

Dr. Chimento,
Thank you so much for your enthusiasm and preparation to make Brookdale's first musical theater production a success. Under your direction, the students did an outstanding job and it was obvious how much fun they were having during the performance. I can't thank you enough for all you do at Brookdale. We are so lucky to have you! Keep up the great work.
