Students should ALL have a book to read that is appropriate to their reading level in class at all times. This is very important for the success of the district's "Balanced Literacy" program. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
There will be NO MORE spelling stories for the rest of the year.
Review spelling sort:
Spelling story due Friday. *(when one is assigned)
See assignment under "Word Study-Spelling Assignments" in the Google Classroom. Work can be done in the Google Classroom or handwritten and turned in.
Directions for Spelling Story Assignment:
Students will receive their new word list (sort) at the start of each week. Using this list of words, students will create and write (or type) a cohesive story using 15 words they choose from their weekly list. This assignment will be given at the beginning of the week and due on Friday (unless otherwise noted).
Since this is a week long assignment it is expected that students put forth a good effort on this assignment and create the best "mini" story they can. In regards to the story, I am not looking for a series of random sentences that are in the shape of a paragraph. Students should try to use a variety of sentences (short, medium, and long) and make sure their work has a plot that makes sense.
NOTE: LATE SPELLING ASSIGNMENTS FOR EACH MARKING PERIOD WILL RESULT IN A LOWER GRADE ON EACH ASSIGNMENT. Please complete your work on time.
Note: All Science assessments are completed on the computer and they are open-book tests.
Study Tips: Please use the study guide (if provided) and textbook and don't wait until the night before to start studying. Spend at least 20 minutes, at least 3 nights before the test going over the study guide (if provided), your notes, the textbook, etc...to prepare properly. Good study habits are the keys to success!

Note to Parents:
Please make sure that your child is completing their homework on a daily basis. This would be much appreciated, and their grades will thank you. Refer to this web page on a daily basis to keep up with what your child should be doing.
Thank you for your anticipated cooperation.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
Parents/Students:
When checking your grades in "Gradebook" please remember we are not using percents and letter grades any longer (Example 85%= B). We are using a standards based report card. When looking at your grades make sure to click on the "Standards" tab to see how well you achieved the various standards assessed for each assignment. In "Gradebook" you will see each assignment will be out of 4 points. The points correspond to 4=Exceeds the standards, 3=Meets the standards, 2=Approaching the standards, and 1=Not meeting the standards.
All students should have a reusable, wide-mouth water bottle to be used in class. Their name should be printed on the bottle. Water bottles should be filled with WATER only! No juice, tea, soda, Gatorade, or any other fluid.
Please remember to bring your violin to school EVERY Friday.
WATER bottles are to be filled at home before school and students can refill them during lunch. We ONLY drink water in the classroom. We do not drink any other fluids (lemonade, ice tea, soda, Gatoraid, etc.) No student will be allowed refill water bottles during class. No plastic water bottles (Poland Spring, etc.) that are meant for a single use are to be brought to class. Students must have a reusable water bottle.
Please have students bring something to occupy them in the event of an indoor lunch and leave it in school. Suggestions include a book or magazine to read, coloring book or drawing pad with colored pencils.
Thank you for visiting the Homework Page!
