Weekly Highlights 11/4/24 - 11/8/24
School will be closed on Monday, November 11th due to the observance of Veterans Day.
We honor and salute all of our veterans who help keep our country safe.
Kindness Week - November 11-17
During Kindness Week, Blind Brook students will be creating class "Kindness Chain" where each student gets an opportunity to show what kindness means to him/her. These class chains will be connected into one large school chain displayed in our Cafetorium as a visible reminder of the kindness we’re nurturing together, aiming to inspire empathy, compassion, and respect in our students.
To make this week even more special, Blind Brook PTA is inviting families to create their own Kindness Chains at home.
Let’s spread kindness far and wide—together!
Spirt Day - Friday, November 15th - Kindness Shirts
We want to thank the 4th grade for helping us with our next Spirit Day! We are asking everyone to wear a t-shirt or sweatshirt with a "Peace, Love, Kindness" message on Friday, November 15th! Perfect timing for Kindness Week!
Bluebirds Take a Storywalk
Students from Mrs. Deluca's and Mrs. Litchfield's fourth grade class, and Mrs. Fagan's Kindergarten class, enjoyed the Story Walk in our Bluebird Courtyard.
Election Day
Kindergarteners in Mrs. Fagan's class learned all about the voting process on Election Day as they cast their ballots for a special Friday celebration which they earned in class! The two choices were Pajamas Day or Extra Playground Time! They filled out a Voter Registration Card and then cast a ballot for their choice. When all votes were in, they tallied to determine the winner!
With a vote of 12 to 6 - the class picked Pajama Day!
Fourth graders in Mrs. Bal’s class participated in a classroom election, where they had the opportunity to vote on whether to have an extra indoor or outdoor recess. This hands-on experience helped students understand the importance of voting, showing them that their vote matters, counts, and reflects a personal choice.
Fourth grader Maggie M. wore a "Future Voter" shirt on Election Day.
Bluebirds Vote For Pajama Day
Mrs. Bal’s class was able to vote on a special day and the vote came in for pajama day! Every vote matters!
Team 501's Native American Museum
Mrs. DeLuca and Mrs. Litchfield's fourth grade class studied the Native Americans in New York. After learning about how the environment shapes a people's way of life, they were given a choice board to select a culminating project to share what they learned through the unit. Students planned their projects and gathered materials from home. They were given a block of time in class to create their models and wrote paragraphs to explain what they constructed. Their work was displayed in the BMPRSS Teacher Resource room so that other classes could visit Team 501's Native American Museum. Below are some picture of Mrs. Fagans Kindergarten class who arranged a visit to Team 501's Native American Museum. They were excited to learn about the longhouses and masks worn during this time period.
Bluebirds Read About Veterans Day
The students in Ms. Mecca's secon grade class learned about Veterans Day. The students watched a video explaining the different jobs in the armed forces. They also read a magazine telling about the military bands.
Thank you, Veterans!
Bluebirds Start Planting NOW for the Spring!
Kindergarten students began the planting process today by planting bulbs. We can’t wait to see the hyacinths, daffodils, and tulips bloom in the Spring!

Ms. Taylor and Mrs. Letizia have officially announced their "Fall Into Reading" Reading Challenge! Every student received their reading challenge grid on September 27th. Once a bluebird completes the whole grid and hands it into the Main Office, he/she will get a reading award and prize! This can be completed through the fall months!

Mental Health Resources in the Bluebird Nest
As the new school year begins, we want to take a moment to acknowledge the challenges that can come with transitioning from the relaxed pace of summer to the structured routine of school. This shift can be difficult for students as they adjust to early mornings, homework, and the social dynamics of the classroom. After a summer of more freedom, the sudden change in schedule can be overwhelming for children. It's common for them to feel anxious, tired, or even resistant to the idea of going back to school. These feelings are completely normal, and with the right support, most students will adjust smoothly within a few weeks.

Disruptive Devices and Items
While our bluebirds are in school they will be focusing on what is all around them, and should not be distracted by disruptive devices or items. Our BMPRSS Family Guidebooks have always contained a section dedicated to disruptive devices and items. Please be mindful of the following - which has been in place - and will continue to be in place:
DISRUPTIVE DEVICES/ITEMS
Any equipment/item that interferes with the educational environment is not permitted in the school building or on the school grounds at any time.
The following items are specifically not permitted:

Trading of these items is also not permitted.
NOTE: This list is not exclusive and any other item that is unsafe or disruptive to the educational process will be prohibited. Students bring personal possessions, inclusive of Nooks, Kindles, and personal iPads, to school at their own risk. NOTE about Nooks, Kindles, iPads: Students must have prior permission from an administrator or faculty member. Students bringing these items in do so at their own risk. As our students all have iPads in our school, there is no reason for a student to bring in his/her own personal iPad.
