All about Mrs B!

Kia ora! My name is Mrs. Kristalee Barton, and I am so excited to be your teacher this year. While I’ll admit I’m a little nervous (who isn’t on the first day?), I just know we’re going to have an incredible year filled with learning, laughter, and unforgettable memories.

I’ve been a teacher for over 27 years (and yes, I do look younger than my age—thank you for noticing! 😉). I’ve had the privilege of teaching all kinds of age groups, but Year 6, 7 & 8 is my favorite. Why? This is the stage where you truly shine as school leaders, independent learners, and mature role models.

A little about me: I have three amazing kids—Moss (18), Poppy (15), and Morri (13). We moved 5 years ago from Dunedin in the deep South, where I taught at much larger schools. But Greymouth has always been close to my heart—it’s my tūrangawaewae (my special place to stand). I was even a student here at Blaketown School back in the day! My mum still lives in the house where I was born, right here in Blaketown.

I’m looking forward to sharing this journey with you and making 2025 a year to remember!
