My name is Lisa Lackman and I am currently in my 19th year of teaching math at Blair Oaks. This year I will be teaching Algebra 1A & 1B, Geometry and Calculus. I am also the High School Cheer Coach.
My husband, Paul, and I are both graduates of Blair Oaks High School, as are our 5 children. We truly “Bleed Green!” In addition to our 5 kids, we also have two beautiful granddaughters , Mia and Sophia.
If you ask most teachers/coaches, they will tell you they knew early on that they wanted to be a teacher or a coach. I can definitely tell you that I did not have a desire to be either! I received my Bachelor’s degree in Educational and Counseling Psychology from the University of Missouri - Columbia in December of 1990 with the hopes of being a school counselor, until I was told I would have to first teach for 3 years. I knew I did not want to be a teacher so I packed my bags and moved to White Plains, NY, where I worked in a group home with adolescents with behavioral and emotional disorders for nearly 3 years.
My first job, after moving back home to Missouri to get married, was working with adolescent felony offenders at the Special Treatment Unit in Fulton. After having our 4th child, I decided to work part-time as a substitute teacher. It was during this time that I found my love for teaching and decided to go back to school to obtain my teaching certification. After becoming certified in Elementary Education, Middle School Math, and Special Education, I decided to take a break and be a stay-at-home mom. When my youngest daughter was 3, I decided I was ready to go back to work. I was offered positions at Fatima and JC, but I knew that Blair Oaks was where I wanted to be!
I would never have imagined teaching as my career path, but I cannot think of anything else that I would rather do or anywhere else that I would rather be other than Blair Oaks! This is, and always has been, my home! We are...Blair Oaks!
