Youth workers support young people aged 11 to 25 and organise activities to help them develop. On a typical day to day basis they may support and mentor young people including carers and people at risk of offending, run projects that focus on issues like health, bullying, crime or drugs, organise activities for young people and much more.
HOW TO BECOME A YOUTH WORKER
The main routes to get into this role are :
University course- there are many different degrees you could undertake in many different areas.
College course- there are different diplomas that you could undertake to become a youth worker.
An apprenticeship- there are many relevant apprenticeships you could undertake to become a community worker.
Working towards the role- you could apply for an entry level job and work your way up to become a youth worker.
Volunteering- volunteering in local projects can secure you a role in being a community worker.
Applying directly- you could apply to become a youth worker if you've got experience and qualifications in teaching, careers guidance, probation or community development.
UNIVERSITY OPTIONS
You will usually need 2-3 a levels to gain a degree. You could undertake a degree in various fields to support a career in youth work. Some of these degrees are:

APPRENTICESHIP OPTIONS
Apprenticeships relevant to this role include:
level 3 youth support worker
level 3 peer worker
level 6 youth worker
If you take a level 3 apprenticeship, a qualified youth worker or similar professional will help you work towards a youth support worker job.
You would also work towards the level 2 or level 3 certificate in youth work practice while you're an apprentice.
