Housing officers look after rented properties for local authorities and housing associations. On a day to day basis a housing officer may assess the needs of people applying for housing, give people vacant accommodation, carry out regular inspections, deal with anti-social behaviour and broken tenancy agreements, refer people to advice on benefits and welfare and much more.
HOW TO BECOME A HoUSING OFFICER
The main routes to get into this role are :
A university course- there are many different degrees you could undertake in many different areas.
A college course- there are different diplomas that you could undertake to become a housing officer.
An apprenticeship- there are many relevant apprenticeships you could undertake to become a housing officer.
Working towards this role- you can apply for admin level and work your way up.
Applying directly- you may be able to apply to a local authority or housing association for a place on a graduate training scheme, if you have a degree.
UNIVERSITY OPTIONS
You will usually need 2-3 a levels to undertake a degree. You could complete a foundation degree or degree in:
Housing studies
Social policy
Building surveying
APPRENTICESHIP OPTIONS
You can take a housing property assistant intermediate apprenticeship and then a housing and property management advanced apprenticeship.
