Charity officers work for charitable or non-profit organisations - either in a role with a specific focus or a broader role covering a range of responsibilities. Your activities will vary depending on the size and type of charity you work for. However, you'll typically need to carry out marketing and public relations activities to raise the profile of the organisation's services and campaigns, design fundraising materials such as leaflets and flyers, create and organise fundraising initiatives and events, approach potential donors and maintain donor lists and liaise with external agencies, including voluntary sector organisations, the media, local authorities, business contacts, trustees and other stakeholders or clients.
HOW TO BECOME A CHARITY OFFICER
The main routes to get into this role are :
A university course- there are many different degrees you could undertake in many different areas.
A college course- some college courses offer you a chance to gain ideal skills.
An apprenticeship- you could undertake a degree apprenticeship in the relevant field.
Working towards this role- join at an admin level and work your way up to gain this role.
Volunteering- volunteering is often a good way to start. You could volunteer with organisations that promote the causes you're interested in and then apply for paid roles as you get more experience.
Applying directly- make a direct application to the role.
UNIVERSITY OPTIONS
You will usually need 2-3 a levels to undertake a degree in the relevant area. You could do a business management foundation degree, higher national diploma or degree to learn the general management skills needed for this job. Another option is to do a degree in the subject area you want to do charity work in, and work your way up into management and director roles.

APPRENTICESHIP OPTIONS
You could work your way up to this role through a fundraiser advanced apprenticeship. This typically takes 18 months to complete. This is dependent on the company and area, you will also usually need to go through an interview process when applying for a degree apprenticeship.
