This programme is an opportunity for you to develop your engineering skills through a combination of classroom and workshop learning, as well as hands-on experience with live aircraft. You’ll gain a Level 3 Engineering Technician apprenticeship – specialising in the Aircraft Maintenance Fitter/Technician pathway – alongside a Level 3 Diploma in Aircraft Maintenance, all while developing a rewarding career in our Engineering & Maintenance team. The role of a Planning & Design Trainee involves detailed technical discussions with customers, architects, public authorities and landowners together with a sound and pragmatic appreciation of complex engineering problems. Applicants must be personable and approachable, with a firm understanding of engineering and financial matters.
The training programme provides on-the-job training and formal courses held in one of our Training Centres at either Taunton or Tipton, over a period of approximately two years (depending on entry level qualifications). Successful candidates will also be expected to study for and achieve a higher-level qualification. The majority of the on-the-job training will take place within local teams, but you may be required to undertake placements at other locations across the National Grid service area, so you need to be flexible and able to travel.
You will be responsible for the design, costing and quoting of projects such as new electricity supplies, and the replacement, diversion & reinforcement of existing electricity network assets.
The apprenticeship programme takes around three years to complete, and you’ll spend your first 10 - 12 weeks being inducted onto the programme at one of our Training Centres. You’ll earn while you learn and develop your knowledge, skills and behaviours to become a Network Planner, a higher-level qualification (if not already achieved). Your Training will include vocational and academic courses along with periods of on-the-job training and development, learning from an experienced and qualified Network Planner. Following a formal assessment of your knowledge, skills and behaviours, you’ll become a qualified Network Planner yourself.
As you will be studying for a higher-level qualification, you will be required to undertake placements with your training provider for up to two weeks at a time during the first two years. Accommodation and travel costs will be provided.

Our three-year Advanced Apprenticeship Substations programme will train you to become an craftsperson in our substations. Here, we transform high-voltage electricity into low-voltage electricity, making it usable for homes and businesses.
As a technician, you'll play a vital role in maintaining our substations, ensuring a safe and reliable electricity supply. During the apprenticeship, you'll learn maintenance techniques for power transformers, main connections, terminals, and various types of joints. This is a five year scheme. Working with a DHL team within a small warehouse in a prison setting working on the Retail contract directly for HMPPS/Ministry of Justice (MOJ). Working alongside offenders, enabling them to pick, pack, and distribute orders. Apprentices will play an integral and empowering role in offender's lives, where you will work with a diverse team to support their rehabilitation in a warehouse environment.

Guiding them through safe systems of work and processes within the warehouse environment
Resource planning - ensuring all roles within the warehouse domain are covered in order to process all of the daily orders.
Ensuing stocking levels are correct to meet daily demand from suppliers

Vacancies for September 2024 Apprenticeship Opportunities are now open.
Leyland Trucks are ecruiting 28 apprentices this year across a range of business areas.
They will be offering 23 Level 3 and 4 apprenticeships which are applicable to those who have achieved at least 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above (A*-C) in Maths, English and Science. There are two Level 3 apprenticeships - Assembly Operative (12 posts) and Business Administration (1 post). The Level 4 Apprentices are Automotive Engineer (8 posts), Facilities & Maintenance (1 post) and Fabrication & Welding (1 post).
Applicants for the other 5 apprenticeship positions will need to have achieved a relevant Level 3 qualification (equivalent to 96 UCAS points) in addition to at least 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, including Maths, English (and a Science for Design). These apprenticeships are Design Engineering Degree Apprenticeship 3posts) and Project Management Degree Apprenticeship (2 posts).
