Degree Apprentice Laboratory Technician Level 6 (Biosciences)

We are looking to recruit an individual who is passionate about starting their career as an degree apprentice laboratory technician within the University of Liverpool. You will work within the Institute of Systems, Molecular, and Integrative Biology and gain an understanding of what is involved in a technical career.

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

General career progression can be anywhere from progressing up to the technical route (core laboratory support, teaching, research and/or facility).
Alternatively, some individuals have opted to go to the postgraduate route to study further for a master's degree or PhD. Some have changed careers to become a teacher and more. There is no limit to this.

Job Accountabilities
A bit more about the role. As an apprentice laboratory scientist, you'll learn key scientific skills and how to ensure that the water that comes out of the tap is of the highest quality. Therefore, ensuring our water is of the quality our customers have learnt to expect. No two days are ever the same in our science department. Our talented team are always on the go as they work to ensure that the water that reaches our customers is always of the same high standard.
You'll have the chance to join the team and learn key scientific skills, while studying and working towards a rewarding career in the water industry.
During your 60 month apprenticeship, you'll get to grips with lots of different systems and activities that take place in our science department, including Ion Chromatography, Colorimetry and Spectrometry. Successful apprentices will achieve a Laboratory Science (Bachelor's Degree) Level 6 by the Science Council at Registered Scientist (RSci) level, and endorsed by the Institute for Apprenticeships.

Victrex Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship
What is the role?
In this role you will plan and deliver practical experimental work and maintain laboratory assets in support of the development of new and existing materials, processes and technologies.
This role will particularly focus upon supporting our composite materials initiatives, and their deployment to our customers. Supporting our Quality Control development work for these materials, you will generate and capture data in accordance with data standards to ensure validity of experimental results.
Laboratory Technicians are trusted to work safely in a lab environment, follow best practice health and safety and quality procedures in order to appropriately meet the requirements of their job role.
You will complete a Level 3 Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship via our trusted training provider at Blackpool & the Fylde College.
The duration of this Apprenticeship is approximately 24 months and if successful, you will join our 2024 Apprenticeship Intake in September.
What I need for this role?
To be eligible for this programme we need you to have achieved or be on course for 5 GCSE's including English & Maths at Grad C/4 or above. Of course we understand it is not all about grades and we are on the look out for the following skills/personal qualities:

What you will be doing?
A DTS Degree apprenticeship involves working and learning alongside experienced practitioners. It combines spending periods of time at University, where you will acquire an Honours Degree, with time working on real projects, enhancing the skills necessary to develop a long career in the industry.
The scheme will see you specialising in Data Analytics.
This will see you learning skills and knowledge associated with Data Analytics such as how to collect, organise and study data to provide new business insight and improvements, particularly where information helps us and our customers achieve mission effectiveness. You will provide up-to-date, accurate and relevant data analysis for the organisation, as well as how to manage, cleanse, abstract and aggregate data across the network infrastructure. You will get a good understanding of data structures, software development procedures and the range of analytical tools used to undertake a wide range of standard and custom analytical studies, providing data solutions to a range of business issues.
Through this combination of academic study and real work experience, you will become a valued member of the team.
Please note you must not book any annual leave within the first 3 months of your apprenticeship. Following this, leave will be considered depending on the individual training delivery schedule and must be approved by your line manager.
What University will I go to?
Cranfield University Milton Keynes 3- 4 times per year with travel paid for and virtual lessons weekly at your normal place of work.
